I'm a new guy to this forum and to motorcycles in general.I just turned 46 and feel the urge to ride.Call it a mid-life crisis,but motorcycling sounds safer than dating a stripper.I love the looks and idea of a big single but I am a little worried about the talk of backfires. How loud is it?On a scale of 1[a baby clapping] to 10[a shot gun blast]how would you describe it. Thanks for any help.

some times 1, sometimes 10. I usually get5 it when I turn off the bike. Most of the itme it was quiet ~ 3, but every once in a while I'd get a 10.

It's a pretty easy fix, though.

I was getting regular 8-10 before the mods :P...now I sometimes get a 2 or a 3... ;D

Mine have alway been rare with or without mods. Never loud.

when i bought my 02, i took it too the dealer and they punched out the plug on the carberator and richened it for me. i installed a supertrapp muffler and a k@n air filter and 15,000 miles later it has never backfired once

Pull in the driveway and shut her down: Kabooom

Pull in, idle a few seconds: pooof

Never any backfires while driving as of yet (800 miles.)

No mods done or intended. Don't like surgery unless it's required on humans, animals, or thing-a-ma-jig-machines.

Just remember that one of the qualitys of a Savage is its Attitude (and sometimes she roars) ;D

Mine usually a 2 occasionally a 5 when I shut it down. Sometimes when down shifting a 3.

Before the carb mods - 2-8. After - very rare, never happens on shutdown, and when it does backfire 1-2.

the backfire is quieter than alot of bikes on the road. sometimes it happens to catch you off guard during a down shift though and scares the cr@p out of you

You'll get used to it but it'll still make people on the sidewalks duck.
