Am in the process of r+r the cam chain and rear guide on the mc. Anyhow, I had a Dr. apointment, so I took a break and have a couple of more questions, (1)does the clutch basket and gear and/or  the primary gear have to come off, or just one or the other.(2) I removed the plug to find TDC and located the mark by the white paint, but am confused as to what it's aligned to. The only notch I see is a "cutout" in the threaded portion where the plug came out of.It's at apporx the 3 o'clock position. I read also here that the Clymer book is telling me to rotate clockwise and is wrong. Thanks for that. Just thought of #3 I didn't see a alignment mark on the cam, can anyone help this idiot in finding it, and its reference mark. Thanks a million for all your help.

Good night Tim,
You removed the plug for the TDC, it's at the 3 o"clock position.
Next, the rotation of the engine is the same as your wheels.
Looking from the left side of the bike when sitting on it > ANTI-CLOCKWISE.

The primary gear has to come off.

IT HAS LH THREAD., meaning you have to turn it CLOCKWISE to undo.

The alignment of the cam is on the camshaft itself , looking from the LH  RH side,  anyway the camlobes have to point downwards.
Sorry I donot have a scanner to sent you the pictures.

Would it be any help if you get hold of a manual so I could piont you to the pictures?????

 I have a Clymer manual, but with the inaccuracy of it, and the poor pictures, I thought I'd check with the pros. If I got you right, I can sneak the primary gear off withouy removing the clutch basket????? Anyhow you've been a great help. Thanks.

There's this little trick to hold the clutchbasket gear. Put a copper washer ( Penny) in between the gears.
