Title: Replacing Rear Turn Signal
Post by clairm on 04/03/06 at 20:46:10

So, after letting my good friend at work take my brand new '05 for a spin, I needed to replace the left rear turn signal. The part came in today and I thought it would be an easy, one screw, install. I have now proceeded to remove the two nuts on the outside of the fender rail, and the bolt running through the frame on the inside, only to find the wiring disappearing under the seat. Do I need to remove the seat to get at the connector? How many bolts are holding the seat down? Is there anything else I should know before proceeding?

Thanks in advance!

The seat is attached with 3 bolts/screws. One is visable just above the Ignition switch and of course #2 on the same location on the other side. Number 3 bolt is in plain view at the back of the seat.  Follow the wires and you will find the connectors.

OK, I got it torn down and put back together. Thanks for the help. My only concern at this point is that when I removed the rail, the inside looks kind of like it's covered with a fine layer of rust colored dust that doesn't brush off, instead of the shiny chrome of the outside. Is this normal, or do I need to point this out to the dealer? I understand that this bike is an '05 and may have been sitting around for the last year, but I wouldn't expect rust!

The fenderrails have been chomed on the inside with a speed of about Mach 2. Crap, luckely the outside is of a better quality. Just spray the inside with a kind of rust preventer.
