Title: Ok now what?
Post by steelwolf on 04/02/06 at 19:58:09

Thanx to all for the great mod ideas. I've drilled a hole in my stock trash can till I get a sportster muffler, done the seat lift (love it) and the idle screw adjustment so far. The idle screw mod turned out to be about 1.75 turns and while it has definately improved the lower and middle part of my bikes power I think it has now made the backfire more frequent. Not loud, and not @ shut down but when the throttle closes as when letting the engine slow me down comming to a light or stop sign. And not every time. Or maybe the hole in the muff did it? Any thoughts? I still have not done the white spacer mod as the weather has been too nice to tear the bike down.  Motorcyle procrastination = "Ride now/work later"

I vote for the hole in the muffler...it is letting more air through the muff, thereby more through the carb, therefore leaning the mix more.
Adjusting the screw helps for sure, but you may need to go farther now, with the screw or a pilot jet.
