Post by DangMan on 04/02/06 at 13:12:52

Finaly i got my forward control set finished ! This is the "test set" painted black. If i like it ill make a new set at the end of the season and chrome it ! I have only driven it a short ride, but allready found the FCs lovely and giving me a lot better ride  ;D Maby a combo with the gts seat, ill drive some more and try to spot what does what. I excuse the poor quality of the pictures, ill take some better ones when the weater allows it  8)

I like those a lot, were they difficult to fabricate? Im thinking about asking a friend who takes machine shop at my high school to see if he can scrape something together for me.  I'm 6'4" so i think it would make me a bit more comfortable...  How far forward did yours move the controls?

Not that dificult, but they took some time to make, I would say that I used more than 10 hours on them, but I dont have the right tool to do it, with the right tools it would take much lesser time !!!!! (sorry for that gramma hell)
I mowed them 10cm (4 ") forward.

I wonder if anyone has moved them up or down as well as forward. might be interesting to see what it would feel like 4 inches forward and 1 inch lowered.

Lowering the foot pegs with forward controls could cause problems with the shifter linkage. The first set I made out of 1/2 inch aluminium plate had the shifter rod rubbing on the mounts, had to put a little bend in the rod to clear the mount. If you lower the foot pegs a "S" shaped rod might be needed.

does the kickstand being moved effect the bike at all?

i just finished mine... i welded the right side into one piece to get rid of the volts and the left side i moved only the footpeg and shifter to an added steel piece so i could leave the kickstand where it was... came out really good, bike is almost done to a complete custom with a round oil tank, drag bars, reworked rear fender for single seat, forward controls, hidden wiring, reworked tank with no hole or lip... looks amazing as soon as the paint is done it goes back together and up on the site...

The bike leans over a little bit more when the kickstand is moved forward, at least on the sets I've made, not enough to worry about but there is more lean. If you are running taller rear shocks and forward controls then the kickstand might be too short. Real nice forward controls DangMan, how thick was the steel you made them out of. Bet you wore out some hole saws during the construction.

We had a problem with my shifter rod too ED.  It was really funny because my 95 had a thicker (in diameter) rod than Torque's 98.  It was catching a little bit too.

We moved our 5.5 inches out and on the right side we dropped my pedal about an inch so the rear brake wasnt up in my shin.  I dont have any lean angle problems or anything and it super comfortable to ride.

I love the holes in urs Dangman.  They look kewl.

Ed_L.
I made them from 5 mm steel ! I added the rod between the plates to make them a bit more stable and mostly for the looks of it !
For the processing of the plates I used a angle grinder to the crude stuff and for the fine trimming i had rebuld my bench lathe so it could cut instead ! (noob working but it did the job)
I just wish for better weather so i can take a ride out to my little photo spot and take some nicer pictures of the mistress  ;D
