Title: Buying S40 for my wife today
Post by Shag on 03/30/06 at 08:04:40

Going by after work to pick it up.  2005 model.  Been reading about it all this morning including the common backfiring problem.  I do all of my own work on my bike, but my wife said HANDS OFF for her bike...  I wonder if it will backfire enough that she'll want me to adjust the low-speed mixture and possibly shave down that spacer...  Wish us luck!  It's gonna be her first bike, and I already sent her the link to these forums.   :)

Why don't you let her use your tools and adjust her own MC.  :o

Here's another url for her: http://www.vtwinmama.com/index.htm

Hey, now you're thinkin'...  For that matter, why doesn't she get her own tools and use them to work on her own motorcycle?   ;D  She's not really into working on vehicles, but I think it would be cool if she was.  I'd love to spend some time with her in the garage.

Shag, whatcha ride?
Shag's better half, good for you.
As for spending time in the garage with the wife -- been there, done that, it's fun but we can't get any work done.

Hey, y'all!  We got the bike and she loves it!  Here are some pictures of the bike:
http://travis.is-a-geek.org/suzuki/

My wife rode it up and down our street in the neighborhood yesterday, but was sort of scared to do any turning yet.  :)  A neighbor a few doors down backed out of her driveway in front of my wife (Kim) but Kim was able to avoid slamming into her.  I think that was a good, controlled lesson in how invisible you can be on a bike.  Today Kim and I rode around in the neighborhood together some and she started getting over her initial uneasiness.  She was taking off just fine, using her signals, turning left and right and all that good stuff.  Still not ready for the highway, but she made a huge leap today and she's excited about it.  I am too.  ;D  She's gonna do just fine.   I think this will be a great bike for her.  She told me yesterday that she wouldn't mind if I "fixed" the exhaust note on her bike to make it a little louder than stock.  :D
Someone asked what I ride.  I ride an '05 Yamaha Warrior.  Here's some details:
http://travis.is-a-geek.org/warrior.html

Y'all ride safe!!!  I'm gonna try to get Kim to start participating in this forum some.  I see y'all have a lot of support to offer.  Very cool!   :)

Shag:  I hope your wife loves her new S40 bike!  I have a 2000 savage and I love it!!!  It's just the right size for me, and yet has lots of power too. ;D

Hi Kim!!!

Just take things nice and easy until you build up a comfort level on the bike.  I only got my M1 motorcycle licence last September, and took a Safety Course before moving up to my M2 licence.  I have been commuting to work on the good-weather days (1 hour each way), and I still am learning as I go.  (e.g. sometimes I shift more smoothly than other times)

Enjoy! ;D

Welcome, that's a nice looking MC. Might want to get some MC gloves - might help with the left hand soreness.

Welcome aboard!  Yeah, I think that white one is one of the best-looking LS650's too.  That Warrior is a mean looking ride also.

After today's ride I'll have the 600 miles on "Taz" and she'll be all broke in.
Loving the bike more and more each mile.

The wife drives her 750 Vulcan. She  ;D everytime she learns of another lady biker.

I don't have the backfire problem during downshifts or compression breaking with my new 2006 Savage, but every time I shut her down I get one big kabooooom like a cannon shot. Can't sneak home that way...

Welcome !
About the big KABOOOM-  let the bike idle for 3 seconds before You turn it OFF and You will hear just a pittle "puf" from the exhaust.
