Seatle
Before you ordered parts, how did you check the cam chain guides? Was it visual or what. I tore my wife's down, just to check the tensioner, and couldn't see anything in the bottom area that would be the coating on the guides wearing/disintegrating. Clymer book don't show much.
My chain is worn out, but the bike only has 6000mi on it. >:(

The rear chain guide ( the one that's attached to the tensioner) you can replace from the bottom side. Just remove the chrome bolt on the RH side of the head. It's recommended to replace this one. The other chainguide can only be replaced when the head is off.

Thanks for the quick reply. One other dumb question, does the motor HAVE to be removed to replace the camchain?

No, just the valve cover and the clutch cover have to be removed to gain the necessary access to remove the chain.

If you decide not to do the plastic chain guide/tensioner,at least get a new tensioner, the bore gets hogged out and as the chain stretches there is the possibility of the shaft and spring coming out of the bore. I was able to yank mine out without disconnecting it.
