Title: Change in build plans, again...shocker huh?
Post by WD on 03/27/06 at 22:17:16

Well, gave up on the BSA gas tank and Vulcan 800A seat. Here is the latest batch of "treasures" to test fit...

Tank: unknown vintage/make European. Fits as though cut for the Savage frame.
Seats: none for front (yet), original Bates pillion rear.
Sissybar: um, BIG!!!
Rear fender: front off of some kind of "classic" metric cruiser, trimmed to fit.
Taillight: Maltese (maybe) or cateye mounted on chick stick.
Passenger pegs: tiny 1970s left-overs.
Grips: "Anderson" style 1970s left-overs.

Oh, I suppose some of the sickos here (Sluggo, Perry, Paladin, et al.) would like to see/comment.  So, with no further ado, let's see if this mess works...

Just raw materials. They'll look better cleaned up, painted/powdercoated, and installed. And the seat mess figured out.

Anyone recognize the tank? How's about clueing ME in. All I know is old, crusty, and in bad need of internal cleaning. Has a right side, male thread, 3/8 NPT "looking"  fuel tap bung. I'm guessing Puch, Jawa/CZ or similar 1960s or 70s vintage European 175-250cc.

;DThanks for the pics there WD ... those vintage parts are gonna give your LS a very unique "old school" look for sure! That tank is b!tchin'!! There's a product called "Kreem" (sounds "porno" don't it?!) that is specifically made for refurbishing the insides of old fuel tanks ... but then you probably already know about that stuff. That Iron Cross tail light is really cool too!
Good luck with the mods man!

Like the tank (yes, it will need a LOT of TLC!) but I dunno about the Maltese Cross. Looks too 1960's nazi to me.
Try www.motocycle.co.uk for some original 1950s-60s looks.

PS Where can I find a nice wrap-around rear fender for the Savage, I want to move the taillamp from under the luggage rack

Perry, Kreem isn't worth the bottles it is packaged in. It is muriatic based, I prefer phosphoric based. Muriatic acid attacks viable metal as well as the oxides, phosphoric won't damage viable metal. As for the lining? The POR-15 product works much better, so does Renuzit (one of the red bake in liners).

Maurizio, I'm going to see how it looks with the Maltese, and with the existing cateye light.  I might Maltese it out, since I also carry the mirrors and blinkers to match. Or, I may leave it a signal and speedo delete.

I'll get a pic of the tank on the frame for y'all sometime later. There is a gap, but, if I put a sprung solo on it, that'll work in my favor. More "wiggle room" for the front mounting tab.
