Title: MPG
Post by Brewbrother on 03/10/06 at 18:00:14

I'm getting 58.6 with no mods and no highway riding. What's everyone else getting??

I get about 46-49 mpg, the best I can tell. When I get close to 100 miles I fillup.

48-50 mpg...change carb...change exhaust...doesn't seem to matter much.

I got 57 with the stock Mikuni carb with a DJ needle adjusted to approximate 2/3 white spacer, a 152.5 main jet, a 55 pilot jet, a K&N direct-swap replacement air filter and a MAC muffler.

After changing to the 38mm Amal Mk2 carb (stock, with no jetting changes), dropped to 40 MPG.  I have since moved the needle clip position to the center notch and rejetted to a #300 (the original stock was a #320) and am now averaging 44 MPG.

This is all with mixed city/suburb and freeway riding.  The freeway riding is generally between 45 and 75 MPH.

All around riding over 7,000 miles I'm averaging just over 50 mpg  :)

I've gotten as low as 30 some-odd mpg (new Bike, not yet broken in) and as high as 70+mpg (3rd-4th gear Riding, 50-60kph for approx. 100kms along a winding rural road with no traffic) ... normally though my milage is around 50-ish mpg as reported by most here.

59 miles per US gallon. Box stock engine on predominately B roads.

Around 50mpg when taking it easy, riding hard with higher rpms around 40mpg. Depends on you riding style.

I usually shift to reserve between 90-105 miles and have stretched reserve about 28 one time.  I start looking for a fuel stop about 85 miles as I'm ready for a break by then anyway if I've just been punching wind getting somewhere. 96 with Hd muffler, full fairing, hard bags and full size rider.

2002 totally stock - I haven't checked in a while, but when I first bought it I was getting 55-60 miles per gallon.  I don't think that has changed much.  I use the speedo as a fuel guage - I try to remember to gas up every 100 miles.

The majority of my riding is city streets, 30-50 mph.   With a lot of 0 mph tossed in due to traffic and signals and stuff.  Between the 0 and and 30-50 the throttle tends to stick at wide open.  I'm lucky to get 45mpg -- grinning like an idiot.

Im considering the spacer change, yet the backfire and excellent mileage are appealing to me.

Do you think your mods will detract from engine longevity??

The more I ride the more I consider keeping everything stock. I'm starting to enjoy the backfire.

You can learn to not-to-close the throttle completely when approaching or slow down to a stop ;)

My driving is city/2 lane 55 MPH highways. I drive 7.2 miles to work, and 7.4 miles to the golf course. I seldom go over 60 MPH. My signature line has the mods I've done.

I happened to get a couple of days in a row where I rarely exceeded 65 MPH on the freeway.  For this period, I averaged 51 MPG.  There seems to be a steep decline in mileage at higher speeds... at least with my current setup.

The tank size is the only real downside to the great gas mileage.  It's thimble sized.  To be able to avoid the local gas station for 5 to 7 days, that would be fantastic.

Maybe Lancer has a mod where we could fill the frame with additional gas.  ;)

Of course, riding with 15 gallons of gas between your legs could be a real fire starter  :o

KLX does about 45-50 which is good considering the carb has an accelerator pump.

Well, for a bit of comparision, I usually hit reserve on the Savage between 100 and 110 miles.  On my C50, the low fuel light comes on between 130 and 140 miles.  It is rather nice to have that extra cushion.  But you know what the funny thing about it is?  It hasn't changed my riding style or how often I stop.  It really hasn't made a difference for me either way.  Go figure.

Don't really know, but Don't really care. ::) If I wanted a fuel saver, I would buy a scotter, every thursday I fill up, then as the week progess's every time I hit reserve I fill up again, I do very little highway ridding of any distance, seems how I always seem to have the family at that time.  compared to my cages I do better, but even then don't care, just want to ride. 8)
