Title: Installed new progressives!

They do ride better. Now if i could figure out the constant back firing, i'd be straight. It acts like im getting air in the exaust.  The sportster muffler is welded and not leaking. But i cant hear or feel any leak from the header gasket area. I even used smoke around it .   ???

If you are satisfied that the exhaust is not leaking then look at the seal between the carb and the engine.  If that is not leaking then your carb needs jetting/tuning.

I'd still bet on the header to cylinder head gasket.  I saw no evidence of a leak either (except for the backfires) but once I replaced the gasket all was well.  Part #2 on this fiche at RonAyers.com (http://www.ronayers.com/fiche/300_0271/muffler/muffler.cfm?man=su&groupid=7190&parent=7080)... $3.58 + S/H.

Thanks Rob,

I'm going to order the gasket today.  I'm backfiring, or after firing since I have the new supertrapp.  But only in the lower gears when I let off of the throttle.
