Title: do I need my front fender?
Post by dichotomous on 03/06/06 at 10:48:44

I currently have my fender off for painting, but I really like the looks of it off, is there any real need for it being there?  do I loose anything important?  I have a full face helmet so I dont think things would hit me in the face...

I have had my fender off for two years, like the look does not seem to hurt anything. but I have heard it takes away from the stabilty of the front. I have not noticed anything. 8)

i had my fender off for a looong time, the only times it sucks is on sandy roads, and after it rains, because it spins it in your face...i wear a half helmet. i even had my back fender off too.

It seemed like it was intended as part of the overall support structure but I haven't ridden with mine off so I really don't have a way to make a comparison.

Deep six it, you'll never miss it.

Mine is getting ready for longer tubes, KZ750 dual disc lowers with shaved fender mounts. Hopefully strutted, spung solo seat, dual headlight, big chick stick, Honda Shadow or 450 Rebel tank, new exhaust...

Should be quite the looker, which a front fender would ruin.

8)Well WD 'ol bud ... your just gonna have to post up pics of those mods fer sure!

The chunky stock front fender probably was designed to add some rigidity to the LS' front end ... though I think it doesn't look as nice as say the sleeker fender of a Sportster ... I'll bet that a superbrace without the front fender would be a cool look though!

If I run the 10 inch over CB450T tubes, I'll probably run the tweek bar on them now. Just swap for the Kawi sliders, hub, rotors, calipers, and relace it into a 21 inch wheel.

What can I say? I gave the stepson the bike, he dumped it, he hasn't done anything to it. I'm bored with the current look, the lack of function in the 1970s spec front end, the lousy shocks, the smashed gas tank...

It is illegal not to have a fender over here but I'm looking fore a low one for KLX as the std. one is a bit of a sail.

I'm considering going without it as well.

Looks considerably more muscular, chopper-like.

The relatively small size of the fender didn't really do a lot to stop road spray from coming up and soaking my body in the first place. Will definitely give this some thought.

Never gave consideration that the fender might be a support structure, but it seems awfully unlikely to make that big of a difference.

I'm sure it helps with stability of the front forks.

Ever hear of SUPERBRACE??  And most of the folks who use *that* are using a front fender as well.

No fender, no Superbrace?  I think that most folks will be able to tell the difference .. if that difference matters is up to you.
