Title: Torque's bike pics Post by Jim_R on 02/20/06 at 11:08:29 All I can say is ouch! Check out this gear that is bent. Piston broken. I'll let Torque tell ya the rest. http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/525859/ http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/525858/ http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/525861/ http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/525864/ |
Title: Re: Torque's bike pics Post by torque on 02/20/06 at 11:25:08 yeah the second pic is what shot out, taking the front of the engine with it, pretty cool really.i never really cared before but the crankshaft is a multipiece crankshaft, kinda weird. i think u can say thats a hole ;D |
Title: Re: Torque's bike pics Post by Dynobob on 02/20/06 at 11:48:38 BAM ! That rod sure doesn't look very beefy. I guess the rod big end is what failed first. Yikes. |
Title: Re: Torque's bike pics Post by lancer on 02/20/06 at 12:08:20 I am only getting the print...no photos at all. What's up? |
Title: Re: Torque's bike pics Post by Steve530 on 02/20/06 at 12:39:07 Photos work for me. That's a serious failure. like DynoBob said. Looks like the big end of the rod broke, then jammed up the crank. |

thats exactally what happened, the connecting rod is really cheap "pot metal". |
Title: Re: Torque's bike pics Post by Steve530 on 02/20/06 at 12:55:14 Not good. Anybody else had this sort of failure? |
Title: Re: Torque's bike pics Post by bentwheel on 02/20/06 at 12:59:37 I agree with a bottom end failure. The rod is not bent nor did the small end fail which indicates the top end is not the cause. When the crank stopped abruptly the load was transferred to the balancer shaft, knocking it out of the engine. This big end rod failure had to be knocking badly prior to kablamo. Fess up Torque you must have heard the engine crying before you killed it. |
Title: Re: Torque's bike pics Post by Kaishaku on 02/20/06 at 13:19:58 Eek, that's what makes me scared of those V twins that have one piston pointing straight at your crotch :o |
Title: Re: Torque's bike pics Post by Savage_Rob on 02/20/06 at 13:26:43 Oh wow, that brings back memories. I had that happen in 1980 on a '59 Ford F-100 (straight-6, 223). Man, what an oil slick and ungodly noise that made. |

Title: Re: Torque's bike pics Post by PerrydaSavage on 02/20/06 at 14:02:12 Wow!! That's some failure! Hope it never happens to my Savage (knock on wood ...) What year was your LS torque ... and how many miles? Did you beat on your Savage, or were you gentle with it? Enquiring minds wanna know! |
Title: Re: Torque's bike pics Post by vroom1776 on 02/20/06 at 14:48:09 WOW! :( |

it was a 1998 with almost 18,000 miles. well it depends on if u consider a ocasional peelout and ocasional intersate run as me beating on it,if u do, i really feel sorry for u,i mean your letting life pass u by...if u dont consider that a beating, congrats your a true biker. |
Title: Re: Torque's bike pics Post by Reelthing on 02/20/06 at 15:18:34 just needs a little jbweld... well maybe a lot |
Title: Re: Torque's bike pics Post by Ed_L. on 02/20/06 at 15:30:31 Wow, a custom see-thru engine complete with a multipiece connection rod. Torque my man when you do something you do it up right, poor thing wasn't even dirty yet. Where are the AK-47 holes or will it be used as a boat anchor. ;D. It died so young, I hope it wasn't a virgin. Just joking around. Tough break, sorry to see it. :-/ |

Title: Re: Torque's bike pics Post by mmosel on 02/20/06 at 17:56:21 Somewhere out there... there is a motor looking for a new home. Maybe from a wrecked Savage? |

I wonder how many Japanese bikes that applies to (V*, Aero, etc.)? I remember, back in the mid '60's, commenting to a buddy who rode Yamaha & Honda, about what looked like inferior metals. His reply (word for word): "I've never found anything wrong with them". I always wondered about that; still, this seems like a very isolated kind of incident. |

Naww, I don't consider that "beating" on it ... but I don't Ride like that either ... too old for that ... so that said, I guess more of my life has passed me by than yours ;) As for being a "true" Biker ... I consider myself more of a "motorcycle enthusiast" than a "Biker" ... I would probably be run out of Sturgis! |
Title: Re: Torque's bike pics Post by luckyeddy on 02/21/06 at 03:40:12 This "modification "would make it easier to check the camchain tension and change the oil though...... |
Title: Re: Torque's bike pics Post by Kropatchek on 02/21/06 at 04:54:03 Have read in the Dutch forum about a similar case. The engine was known to have an oil consumption. Guy went on a longer trip and did not check the oil level, engine runs "dry" and klabam. Greetz Kropatchek ;D |

yeah i originally thought that i either i blew a tire or it was leaking oil,but when i came to a stop, the oil was in the middle of the window. then i had to get a ride home,to get my truck to haul it back home ::),and while loading it ,all that oil came out right in my truck bed. what a pain in the a$s. |
