Title: Squeaky Front Brake?
Post by SavageBiker on 02/19/06 at 21:46:59

I have an '01 Savage in very good condition and well maintained.  I fixed the speedo rattle and raised the seat height but I get an awful squeak when applying the front brake.

The pads appear to be fine.  Any suggestions?

Ride on!

You'll get more responses if you post it in the Rubber Side Down section.

But FWIW, my brakes squeak sometime too.  You may have a glazed pad -- try scuffing the surface of the pads with sandpaper and reinstalling them.  If you have them off to scuff them up, also try a bit of brake grease on the backs of the pads then reinstall.

Take the padds  off and cover the back /metal/  part liberally with silicone /any kind/. Assemble back and almost sure the noise will be gone.

I find mine do that sometimes. If I just break hard twice with the front brakes mostly going from about 40mph to 0 quite quickly, but obviously in control, it wears off the gunk on the pads and rotors and voila then squeak is gone.

Squeaky brakes are usually caused by the pads ringing (vibrating) which is caused by dirt or brake dust isolating them from the caliper.  Cleaning the caliper and back of pad will usually fix the problem.

Personally, I think it is Suzuki's nature to squeal like a stuck pig.  My GZ did the exact same thing.  I pulled the pads off, scuffed them up and they still did it.  I just learned to live with the annoyance.

Thanks to all.

Air sprayed from my compressor helped some until I can mess with the pads themselves.

I guess it could be worse...

if any type of parts cleaner gets on them they squeak like a $%#$. I learned that one myself.

Do they make ceramics for savages?
Cleaner less squeakier

A simple search on ceramic brake pad turned up several, including Brake Pads: the Sequel (http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?board=RubberSideDown;action=display;num=1127942660).
