Title: ? about Superbrace
Post by mmosel on 02/19/06 at 21:26:45

The Superbrace for the Savage says that it's for 2001 & 2002 models. Is there any reason it wouldn't work for a 2005 model?

Or pre-2001 models for that matter?

work fine as long as you do not have the fork guards

So if you have them, and remove them, would it then work?

Anyone know what's involved in removing them?

I cut mine off using a boxcutter so I could install my fork gators. They're hard plastic.

My 98 didn't have the guards and the Superbrace fit perfectly.

Same with my '02, took about ten minutes to install.

Dumb question here - what's a fork guard?

It's a metal or plastic piece that covers the front of the fork tubes. It keeps road debris and bugs off the fork tubes where they contact the seals. This extends the life of the seals.

New Savages have them stock and it's an optional piece that screws to the Superbrace.

Thanks. It's not the black plastic piece between the tubes which I believe are seals, then.

Has anyone successfully installed a Superbrace on an 05 or 06 S40?

I was looking at my forks today, and even with removing the guards, it doesn't look like there is clearance above the fender for the brace.  ???

The brace has a slight curve to it to clear the front fender.
