Title: Possible new fork brace source Take a look
Post by theikeman on 02/15/06 at 17:33:55

I am currently working with a machinist who makes real nice braces for the Yamaha XS650

http://www.tkat.com/forkbrace/bottom_view.JPG

I sent him all the dimensions and he will see if he can make them for us LS650 owners. The more emails he gets, the greater the odds of him producing them. So ... email tkat@tkat.com
Let him know you heard it from me.

Ike

That's really cool. I ran into this guy on a vintage dirtbike forum and was considering contacting him about making up Suzuki fork braces. Guess you beat me to it  ;D

Would one have to remove the plastic fork guards to install a fork brace?

What plastic fork guards?

Ahhhh, I see.  I just looked at the 2005 S40 fork assembly on the fiche and noticed they have one.  The 1998 Savage doesn't.  I added the stainless fork protectors to my Superbrace.

That brace is very nice ... and I might be interested in getting one if the price was right (meaning lower than the rather expensive Superbrace)

I emailed the guy and told him I would be up for one of the fork braces if he decided to make a production run.
If we have enough people email him we might be able to get them at a really good price....so let's make it happen!!
OK?  OK!

I'll email him. I'd be interested, too. Sounds like a great opportunity to me. Wonder what price range he's thinking?

I just sent him an email - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a 50 dollar fork brace!! ;D ;D

He knows we are looking for a deal, I doubt 50 bucks will get it done. Take a look at the pic, they are very nice. The M O R E emails he gets from our group, the better the odds, so - email away and let other members know about this.
My two cents ...

I just e-mailed him and requested a price.

I will email him too. It would be nice to know if he could see and feel a bike before he makes 'em as opposed to just going by measurements.

How much does he charge for his Yamaha ones?

It would be great if he would build some stylish forward controls kits too! (wishful thinkin'...)  ;D

Not so wishful. I think he could make forward controls easily with his CNC machine. That's one part in the aftermarket that is waaay expensive. Good idea.

Wouldn't that just be sweet? We'll have to bring it up. I got an email back from him today. He said the cost would probably be around $100. He asked if that is 'in the ball game?".  He also said he was going to get on this forum to keep us updated. He said that he stopped by a shop this AM to check out the scoot. He said that the plastic fork guards would likely have to go, but we already knew that.

Meanwhile, check out these forward controls I found - they're $459.

Foward Controls (http://www.metric-cruisers.com/motorcycle-parts-accessories/product_info.php?cPath=91_126&products_id=656)

He could probably make a kit that would fit our footpegs and controls for a lot less.

Look great and for around $100.00 sounds like a good deal. Have sent an email also.

He contacted me about the forward control kits I made, told him that he can use my plans if he needs to. Need to find someone with a plasma cutter and make a bunch out of 1/4 inch steel plate.

Cool. I actually sent him a link to your post and pics. Glad to hear that he's considering this!
