Dropping a bike is not too bad -- you grind a little skin off, no big deal.  Crashing a bike is bad, that sudden stop does nasties to bones and internal organs, not to mention driving external objects deep, through the skin and into stuff that counts.

This gentleman experienced a crash.  The rider pushed the windshield foreward, but didn't it snap it off -- he might departed the bike off to the side.  The front fender has an imprint of the crash bar indicating that the front wheel was pointed slightly to the right upon impact.  Most likely the bike laid down on it's left side, but we cannot see that side.  The frame and tripletree look okay, but would have to be checked to be sure.  I am very curious as to what impact speed was.

I saw one very similar to that once and it was caused by running off the road, down a small hill and into a ditch.

BMW makes a 650 Thumper for that kind of riding.
