Title: Oil Pressure Question
Post by SAMM on 11/26/05 at 22:20:21

Reciently bought my Savage..Changed the oil..Filter was missing small o ring seal behind filter ( replaced).. Now after a nice ride there is oil spraying out the side cover under pressure by the small belt pully, Spraying on the belt!  Is there a pressure passage in the outer cover on the kickstand side?  I looked with a mirror and it sprays!
Not the shift shaft housing..Looks like the kickstand has to be removed to get this cover off...Any comments?

Hey SAMM Yes you do have to remove the kick stand to get at all the cover bolts.. If you remove the cover you will prob. find that the side cover gasket has moved when the previous owner pulled it to weld the case where the small starter gears ride on a shaft..Hope it  holds..Accounts for the starter beeing a little noisey too

Is this the damage that happens when the starter kicks on shut down ??

Yes, but only with pre 1991 Savages. In that year the crankcase was strenghtened and in 1996 Suzuki introduced a torquelimiter in place of  the starter gears.
Yuou might want to check the post in the technical section"Things that have changed........
