Title: do cool paint jobs help or hurt the value?
Post by jimbrough on 11/25/05 at 15:48:05

jus' thinkin' on some winter projects and i really am in need of a paint job....few dings and lots of tiny scratches on the tank..have seen lots of flamboyant paint jobs lately and would love to see something like that on my dark blue suzi...trouble is she is a bit small so i'm always looking to deal her on a bigger bike.

my question is if she's yellow with some lovely orange flames would that kill her re-sale value if i ever get around to selling her ?

any opinions?

a paint job that is correctly done will allways sell for more $  ......unless it's distastefull (i know i didn't spell that right) ::)

Yeah, I agree. I always felt a good paint job is money well spent. A new paint job gives you a very good feeling. It may even make it easier to sell.

This is a good question ... saw a beautiful '00 Kawi Vulcan 800 Classic with 4700 mi. on the odo, on e-bay last week with a "buy it now" price of $4999USD ... and that included a $4000USD stunning blue "music note n' flames" paint job!! The pics were beautiful (I'll see if I can find one ...) and the Bike looked mint!
Seemed like a good deal to me ...

Here we go!
Just checked, it's still on e-bay; here's the link for more info & pics.

that goes to show u the resale value of a six year old kawasaki,if it was a harley softail it would be $30,000.
im not to crazy about that paint ,its hard to believe that it cost 4,000....more like 1,500.

The price of a product is only determined by the consumer's percieved value. It does not indicate the actual product's worthiness. ::)

yeah that doesnt look like a $4000 paint job to me either lol.  It is nice but I dont like the colors..  kinda too subtle and the design doesnt pop off that blue too well.  Im sure it looks better in person but prob kinda close up.  I know one thing tho.  Torques paintjob looks awesome.

Wow when u see how silky smooth it is from all his wet sanding and how glossy it is, u are like blown away.  Oh and that red paint, as well as his frame being painted, really made his chrome pieces and seat pop out.  All that prep work he did was well worth it. and it looks like a 4000 paintjob to me.
