That is cool if true.  Yours?  All your miles?  Year?  Condition?  Troubles you've had?

Babelfish says that equates to

Quote:
100,000 km the first engine, with 70,000 km a new piston and a new cam shaft were inserted

Close, it's 62,137 miles.  New piston and camshaft at 43,495 miles.  What does that entail anyway?  I had alway sort of thought that any major repair might put my current Savage out for the count considering how cheaply they can be purchased new or even better with only a couple thousand miles.

oh I guess - but from the pictures blue-thumper has a really fine ride - I'd bet he'll keep fixin it till he77 freezes over - starting to feel that way about the '95

It takes a lot of TLC to do that. What is amazing is that somebody in Europe / I just assume because of the language/ put this milege on a Savage. I expected somebody from US or Canada to have the most miles.

He's from Germany, hence the German language. Look at his webside. Even if you don't read German, just scroll around , there's some beautifull Savages pictured.

Hammy, you're thinking out of too many assumptions.
Fact #1, Savages were only sold 1986-1988 in Europe
Fact #2, Savages sold poorly, because they were big thumping singles with the horsepower of a 125cc 2stroke in the days when street racers ruled the market
Fact #3, Savages were crushed because nobody wanted them 2nd/3rd hand anyway
Fact #4, US wages/costs ratio is probably better than in Europe, so buying a bike IS an issue when insurance is more expensive than the selling price of the bike.

I bought my 1988 Savage 6th hand on 30 September (end of riding season) for 1000 Euro = US$ 1200 with 43.000 Km on it already. What's the quote back in your city for an 1988 Savage?

You see, it's different this side of the planet. Big planet.

Else, Kropatches says it all in only 4 words 'look at his website'
www.ls-650.de
Possibly the only Savage site in Europe.

Regards,
Maurizio

Well Maurizio, there are more European websides.
Allthough there's not much activity on those.
Dutch. another German one and the Finnish I know exist.
I understand 4 languages so I can read the German sites, the Finnish however I cannot make head nor tail out of it. Their picture gallery give me some ideas as to modifying my bike.

It wasn't meant as a critisism of the choice to keep a bike and fix it.  There are always good reasons to do so and that in my situation the purchase of a new bike would be a consideration if something big were to brake.  I wasn't knocking him or anyone else, but stating my situation that I am able to purchase the bike and don't always have time to fix the bike.  I just wondered the work involved and someone might then talk me into considering the work.  For someone like me who takes half a day to get the jets changed the work is usually just to much.  I am surprised that Savage's were sold from only 86-88 in europe.  They seem to have quite the following onver there for making such a breif appearance.
