Title: The ONE Best Thing about Riding Your Savage!
Post by jbrough7 on 11/02/05 at 14:59:29

They ARE lots of fun, aren't they?  But what is your best moment on those beautiful bikes?  What is the one reason you go out on that sucker every morning?

The one best thing for me is the sound it makes when I'm cruising along at 65-70 m.p.h. and then I have to back off the throttle for some reason, and that burble comes through!!  What a lovely sound...kinda bum..buum....bummmm...bummmmmm with a sort of a throaty almost-roar to it!  Beautiful!

What about you?

I like to have a whole day off with nothing to do but take a long leisurely ride up the lake. I do a lot of stopping to look at things, or just to lay back in the grass and watch the puffy white clouds floating by (fair weather cumulous) ...Notice no one ever stops a cage to do this. Then lunch in some little out of the way mom & pop place before setting out for home.
I love the peace and solitude, and the relaxing feeling of satisfaction that a day like this inspires in me.   :)

when I drop off the throttle from 65, I hear BANG out the back...which I also like!
I love exploring my own neighborhood and seeing things I never saw from my car.

The best thing about riding my Savage is that it is all mine, the mods, the look, all mine ;D

I like whackin' the throttle from a stoplight & watching 700 pound cruisers disappear in the mirrors.

I'm gonna have to agree with babbalou about the whackin'. Sure is fun, but i think the absolute best
thing about riding my Savage is finding a good set of twisties to drag some peg.  Not easy to do in coastal Georgia! (all straight flatland here)

I think the best thing about riding my savage is when another biker waves at u and you feel a part of something.

It's weird how in my cage, I drive sedately to get the best gas mileage...but on my suzi, just about every light or stop sign, i give her donkey until i'm up to legal limit (maybe even a bit past)

when after carefully manuevering through city trafic and passing a few cars on the outskirts i find myself the lead vehicle with only the curving road and dwindling light that affords me almost but not quite enough time to make it home before pitch dark sets in.

FREEDOM!

I agree with Babbalou, Freedom. I don't worry about much when I'm riding, just enjoy being on my bike. I love to find a clear country road and weave the white lines. Both my girls love it too so we do it a lot. Major Two Wheel Therapy

Abso-frickin-lutely!  I'm with you and Slopoke on this one. There are even a few roads with a lot of potholes/chugholes that I like because a lot of cages avoid 'em and I get to dance with Nadine between the obstacles.

Been thinking about this.

The ONE Best Thing about Riding Your Savage is that you are not in a cage.

The smell of a farm in the country, the sight of a chain of endless mountains, the sound of the wind rushing by you, the feel of the thumper below, the taste of freedom

Just when I need the power to accelerate fast - it's right there!!!!  Not to mention it just is so cool to shift the gears quickly and leave the competition behind!

Freedom to think and have time away from family pressures is nice too.

The ability to split hair in between close-to-stand-still traffic and get to where I wanted without the stress of commuting ;D and the 55 mpg of course

When lane-splitting becomes legal in Texas, that might be a nice thing.  In the mean time, the ability to use the HOV lane is pretty nice.

High Occupancy Vehicle.  The far left lane on certain sections of some major freeways is dedicated to passenger vehicles carrying multiple passengers.  These lanes often move noticeably faster than the rest of the freeway.  People are fined for using it with only one person in the vehicle.  Commercial passenger vehicles such as taxis and buses are also allowed to use them but only if they contain a certain number of passengers.  Anyway, bikes are also alowed to use them and it can save time and keep a breeze going on a hot day.  These lanes have specified areas for entry/exit and crossing into  or out of them at any other place is subject to fines.  However, some cagers often view this as their emergency passing lane and can cause some nasty occurrences.
