I've listed myself as smitty.  I kinda miss those tiger stripes I painted on there...  uh... if you look, I'm holding a PBR can in that pic... that was a drunk day, and a drunker night....  Never play Indian poker for shots...  :P

As you may be able to gather, that was a day we had a yard sale, and I put my savage on the front lawn  hoping it would draw in possible customers....  which it did quite well...  but no one wanted a savage for $20,000.  "There's an extra zero by mistake, right?" "Nope!"  :D

Title: Re: Putting your Savage on the map
Post by vroom1776 on 10/28/05 at 10:01:48

Well, since I put that metal seat on there, I upped the price to $50,000.  Yes, a money order is okay.  ;)

To be honest,  I was very afraid someone would make a serious offer for it in cash, not 20k, but something reasonable...

Took me a minute to figure it out, and I'm "Blues King" there because of a local radio DJ / Musician personality who had the Rockin_John Moniker before me. He died recently, and It would be in poor taste to use his old Nickname on anything associated with my local area.

AND... Since There are so many famous blues players named "King" as I am, and "da Bluze" is my natural fall-back playing style...And, I'm highly influanced by the three most famous "King" blues players; the new nick just seemed a natural.

Naw, I don't travel much to see people play. I figure eventually most of them will eventually get somewhere close enough to me so I don't have to travel long distance to see them. It has actually worked out very well for me, as I've seen a pretty impressive list of blues players from Delta, Chicago and country styles, as well as some more modern blues artists.

At one time, I was a charter member of the "Tulsa Blues Club" and was also in an active band in the area. Eventually the "TBC" changed the "Club" to "Society" for some stupid reason, and I quit keeping up with the whole mess. Then I quit playing gigs 12 or so years ago.

Now I seldom go see anyone play unless it is close and free ;) Thought I am kind of "Blues centric" I also enjoy listening to many kinds of music. For instance, I went and saw the fantastic guitar/slide player Jr. Brown some months ago. What a monster on the strings, and pretty funny act too!

First you have to upload pictures to an Internet server, such as most people's ISP provide as a free service; or other free servers like bikepics or photobucket.

Then you just click the little "photograph" symbol: fourth from left, on the second row of buttons in the "post" or "post reply" screen.  You then have to cut-and-paste (1)  the URL from your location bar between the "[URL]" tags; which are used by the Forum's software to identify the Internet directions to go fetch the picture from the server you uploaded to, and the Forum's software then posts the picture here.

(1) In case anyone doesn't know how to cut-n-paste, the easy shortcuts in almost all Windows applications are:

"Highlight" what you want to copy, then use these key combinations:

CRTL+X = Cut
CRTL+C = Copy
CRTL+V = Paste

Simple huh?  ;D

Sorry I had to send this in this way, but it bounced back to me when I tried to send it to Gallery@SavageRides.com, as instructed. I have included the link to the only photo I have of my Savage so far:

http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y103/russellwhitlock/Interesting%20Cars%20and%20Other%20Stuff/?action=view&current=MyWeekendWarrior.jpg

Details

Name:     Russell Whitlock
Address: Wellington, New Zealand (Wellington is at the very bottom of the North Island, in case you're not sure.)
Bike:       1998 Suzuki Savage LS650
Notes:    I have only owned this bike for two weeks. It had 11,000 kms on it when I bought it, and it's up to 11,500 kms already.

The only things that I have done to it since buying it are to remove the carrier (as it looked awful) and replaced the dust covers on the wheels with drilled out red dice. This was done just to add a personal touch to my ride.

Prior to buying this bike two weeks ago, I had not ridden a bike for about 8 years, so I am taking it easy while I get back into it. Previous bikes I have owned have included a Yamaha SRX-6 (600cc single cylinder road bike) and a Yamaha Virago.

I also have a chrome plated helmet, which looks great when I'm riding the Savage.

One point I'll make - everybody seems to say that the Savage is a great bike, so long as you're not too tall. Well, I'm 6'3", and I have the original curved handlebars, and I don't find it too small. I probably lean back further on it than many of you, but as my wife doesn't like riding pillion, I can do this without problem.

My Savage is absolutely mint condition, which you'd probably expect, being a '98 model with only 11,000 k's on the clock.

Two last interesting points - on Wikipedia it states that they no longer make Savages new. I'm not sure about in the states, but in NZ you can still buy the 650 new, although they no longer make the 400cc version. Check out www.motorcycle.co.nz for new prices. (In $NZ)

And lastly, I had never seen a red Savage prior to getting my one. All the ones in NZ seem to be black or dark blue, so I thought that the red might be quite an unusual colour. Imagine my surprise when I saw a red one being used in the header of www.suzukisavage.com

Title: Re: Putting your Savage on the map
Post by verslagen1 on 05/10/07 at 15:14:11

Color depends on year.

Wiki is technically right, you can't buy a LS650 new any more as it's been renamed S40 but, other than some minor changes, It's the same bike.  When you're searching for parts, search for ls650, s40, savage, & boulevarde.

Mine's a red '96, quite common here.

Not true.  They renamed it from Savage to S40.  Both are LS650.

being as computer literate as I am (or not) there is no way I can post a picture on this site (I don't like cameras, either), let alone on a map.

saying that, I'm in Grand Junction, CO, in the high desert, altitude 4,500 feet, about an hour from the Grand Mesa (biggest flatop in the world), about 10 minutes ride from the Colorado National Monument (my sister from England refered to it as a mini Grand Canyon on a visit here). GJ is about 250 miles west of Denver, 30 from the UT border.

also known as the home of Lon (Thumperclone) - 2 LS650s in  a town of around 50,000 people!
