Every once in a while I woud put "fishtail muffler" into Ebay. A bit over a week ago this one showed up, single, listed for Harley twins possibily to use as a spare. As Harleys use mufflers in pairs, this singleton only received one bid -- mine. :D One of my gripes with stock is the BIG backside totally blocked off 'cept for a tiny pipe in the middle. This one has no such fakery. When I got it I looked down the outlet and saw daylight from the inlet. The inlet enters, bends down with perforations, the outlet is straight nearly to the front with perforations. The header/muffler meets at a slight angle. Being lazy I got a tube of exhaust sealer to bridge any gaps, clamped together with a standard 1.75" automotive muffler clamp. A pair of large hose clamps secure the muffler to the stock muffler support. No leaks that I can detect. Yet. If it survives a month I'll cover the connection with the JC Whitney cover. The stock muffler has been said to make the Savage "sound like a lawnmower." This is quite a bit louder than stock, not as loud as some bikes I've heard. Should not get harrassed. It is missing the high pitch brappy sounds of a little bike, good deep boomp-boomp-boomp. Performance? It runs. Quite nicely. I'm not very picky on performance. I think my carb may have been re-jetted by the previous owner. as the old muffler was rather sooty. |

Title: Re: $9.95 Muffler Post by Paladin on 09/16/05 at 15:40:10 Patience pays. Eventually you will be the one who finds the item everyone else overlooks. I have been putting "fishtail muffler" into Ebay for quite a while. My grandfather taught me the meaning and value of patience. He had a photograph of a bee on a rose. Easy to take. Simply focus on the rose and wait for the bee. |
Title: Re: $9.95 Muffler Post by lancer on 09/16/05 at 18:18:05 Ebay is my second home...I love it. I started buying and selling stuff just to support my "extra parts habit", and it turned into a small business after a while...who knew? You can get anything on ebay for next to nothing if you are patient. |
Title: Re: $9.95 Muffler Post by DavidV on 09/16/05 at 21:28:25 eBay is great. You just have to wait for all the impatient folks to get their parts first - usually at a price higher than they're worth. |
Title: Re: $9.95 Muffler Post by shawn_b on 09/17/05 at 22:00:20 what are you using for a bracket ???or does it stay up on its own ;D shawn |
Title: Re: $9.95 Muffler Post by Paladin on 09/18/05 at 06:51:48 It's resting against and strapped to the stock muffler bracket. (See the two vertical stripes in the center of the muffler?) |
