Title: Owners Groups
Post by Cindi Knox on 09/13/05 at 07:48:31

Are there any groups for Savage and Boulevard S40 owners

I once advocated for a Savage owners group called "Savage Owners Worldwide".

Not that I know of but I'd join if there was. There's a lot of us around the globe.

"SOW"?  Oh, dear. :o ;)

I don't know of any owners' groups either -- seems this is it.

There have been a few groups for the Savage, but most Savage riders are fickle....and loyalty is weak.

That's why we joined the Four Stroke Single National Owners Club....

Fiss Knockers (http://www.fssnoc.org/)

Title: Re: Owners Groups
Post by Cindi Knox on 09/18/05 at 04:48:21

I was a member of FSSNOC for six years.  But I moved, stopped getting the news/magazine, and never got around to writing to the guy who runs it to reup.

I think I still have my old memeber number somewhere.

Post by Greg_650 on 09/18/05 at 07:11:27

And I apologise...instead of "Fiss", it is supposed to be "Fizz".  I realized that when reading the "Thumper News" last night.   :o

Title: Re: Owners Groups
Post by WD on 09/18/05 at 13:19:37

I've toyed with joining FSSNOC a few times over the years.  We've got 3 thumpers in the family: 1971 Honda CL100 dual sport, 1983 Yamaha XT550 dual sport, and 1998 Suzuki Savage. Never seem to get around to filling in the form and mailing it in.

As for Savage owner's clubs, it's been tried several times at the Heise forum. Nothing ever came of it. Kind of a shame, the Savage is a pretty good bike, much better than many of the other models that have owners clubs.

Bear Tooth Kawasaki hosts a forum for ALL Kawi bikes. The owners group is free to join, forums are very similar to this one, and members get 15% off of ANY OEM parts/accessories, or in house merchandise (shirts, hats, stickers, etc).  Maybe a Suzuki shop could be enticed into doing the same for us Savage owners. I think FSSNOC members get discounts at select dealerships and retailers as well. Would be worth investigating.

Pals,

Me being a non-native English speaker and not residing in the US, I do not understand this joke....

therefore, I am not clapping for this for the moment, would any of you kind riders take a few minutes and explain the logic (or lack thereof) behind that hilarious statement?

Thanks,

RW

Post by sluggo on 09/23/05 at 21:38:40

hey red wine  how the heck ya been??

it was a play on words, implying that i pick up women of questionable moral character every time i leave a bar.

that in response the the question  can you put the pig on the bike.

but then again if you have to explain your material, it isn't working so well.    :-[

Thanks Sluggo,

the joke woks fine, but it's me who does not get it...

probably would need a few months in the US to catch all those little linguistical tricks...

I've been doing fine, thanks, a lot of work, thou... it's the bike that'sin bad shape as you can read....

thanks,

RW

Hey.  It's true.  I've seen too many come and go.

Only a true thumper rider keeps a Savage....or buys a new one and chops it it up  ;D

How much would you take for the Yamahaha 550?

A pair of slide carbs would be needed on the XT.

I think the XT needs only one carb....but it IS a Thumper.

Yes, You could run a one into two inlet manifold.

Title: Re: Owners Groups
Post by Greg_650 on 09/25/05 at 08:02:19

Maybe my mind is fuzzy...did the Yam 550 have 2 carbs?  I know the XT500 only had one.

Title: Re: Owners Groups
Post by klx650sm2002 on 09/25/05 at 08:05:55

Yes My XT500 only had one carb but the 550 is 4 valve and has a twin choke carb, one per valve. One choke is like a slide carb, the other a C.V.

Okay.  Got it, now.

Title: Re: Owners Groups
Post by WD on 09/25/05 at 09:48:00

My wife says $600 for the XT. I haven't even gotten around to throwing the new battery in it. Might do that this afternoon, after I delete/bypass the sidestand switch, pretty sure it went T.U., simple problem, simple solution.

It is dirty as all get out, has two dents in the gas tank, and "needs (tiny tear)" a new seat cover. Title should be here in the next week or so, it is taking Washington 10-12 weeks right now to get titles to bike owners... >:(

If it doesn't start by the third kick, I'm junking it. I can get $500 for it at work as a parts bike. And I need some winter riding gear. The truck croaked, the car has been dead for a year and change. Back up truck hasn't ben started since 1994, not licensed since 1974.

So, $600 and it maybe runs okay, is dirty as all get out, has a torn seat, and dents in the tank.  I'm afraid to ask about tires.

Not sure how anyone could turn that down  ::)

Title: Re: Owners Groups
Post by WD on 09/26/05 at 00:13:15

The scary part is that $600 for an XT550 is cheap. I've checked on e-pay, and the things have gone for $1200-1900 as non-runners, in worse shape than mine.

Didn't get the battery in today either. Too busy riding the Kawi. And then changing the oil beacause Castrol ActEvo 10W40 is a great cleaner, but a lousy lubricant. Emphasis on can't. 800 miles, and that oil was toasted. Switched to GTX 20W50 car oil, just like the Intruder and Savage. Works great, can get at Wal-mart (along with my $2.07 cent filter, yep, Vulcan takes a car filter).

Might just take my Savage back, the kid won't come over and fix it. Oh well, he's been off it almost a month, wants to ride, doesn't want to wrench. HE broke it, why should I fix it so he can go out and tear it up again? I think he's taking the "Children should be rarely seen and never heard" house rule a bit too seriously...

Yeah, house rules are you catch it you clean it, you shoot it you butcher it, you wreck it you fix it. Don't talk the talk if you can't walk the walk.  ;D ;D

Isn't there a legal procedure for the disposition of an abandoned vehicle?  This could take time.

Hey.  It's true.  I've seen too many come and go.

Well, Greg, you made an admirable attempt at starting an owner's group / rider's club in the Yahoo Group.  Some people just don't appreciate a good idea -- or a good idea man.

Thanks, man.  I tried and failed, but with that said, I've decided to focus my energies on the Fizzknockers instead.

I recommend the FSSNOC for all of us Savages....

That is a really nice purple color for that Savage.

Here is the one and only Savage rally that I was able to organize...7 Savages, 1 Vulcan, and 1 Victory.  A great time.

Hint:  Mine is the only one with a horn mounted in the front forks :P

Give it a shot if you want.  No rip-off.  No political agenda.  You get newsletters, some "business" cards, and best of all, a really nice T-shirt.  I got all my stuff in about 10 days....

All for just $30, so it isn't a bad deal at all.
