Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it. This includes air molecules. The airflow through a carburetor is pulsed, not steady. When the intake valve opens there is flow through the carburetor. When the intake valve closes the flow is halted. Or would if not for the first law of motion. The inertia of the air/fuel molecules tend to keep them moving toward the intake even when it is closed, resulting in a bunching up in front of the intake valve waiting for it to open. This causes a slight increase in the pressure in the intake which tends to cause a greater amount of fuel/air mixture into the cylinder when the vlave does open. A longer, smoother passage would increase this effect, giving you a bit of supercharging. That is the rough theory behind it. Making it actually work is a matter of applied physics, heavy duty math, and/or a lot of trial and error. Which is why I will be doing a 4900 mile round trip if/when I get my Flat Slide. |

I have also fitted a car air filter rated at about 55 bhp so that is well in. The carb is called a 41 but actually measures 42mm. If you see the little brass part bottom right of the venturi that is the nozzle for the accelerator pump. Clive W :D |

Title: Re: Ram pipe Post by vroom1776 on 03/02/06 at 07:03:27 To put that hypercharger on there, you'd need to: 1. make a bracket to hold it. 2. make a new intake tube that hooked up to it 3. either find an HC that has a round mouth or make an adapter. These thing only look good, they don't really do anything. They "valves" run off the vacuum, I believe. As they say on the V* forums, "Pods for go, hypercharger for show." i.e. KN pod filters |
