Title: Highway pegs on engine guard
Post by wnplt on 09/03/05 at 19:39:52

Has anyone installed the factory engine guard and then added highway pegs.  Wondering if it would work and if the foot position would be comfortable. Thanks

I added highway pegs to my bike, and it does not work, due to the shortness of the engine guard.  Because the savage is shorter it really does not work that well. I am 5'6" and my wife who also rides is 5'4" does not like it. I will be taking them off this weekend. You dont know until you try.

I made some braces  and bumped the guards out about 3 or 4 inches from the frame.   Then, I used some steel bars about 4 inches long to extend the highway pegs even further out from the attachment to the guards.  On a good day I'm about 5' 11", and this setup is comfortable.

I added the suzuki engine guard and am going to add some kuyakin highway pegs that have the ability to extend beyond the highway bars.  Don't have a link.  Sorry.

I used to have the OEM engine guard with pegs on my Savage.  As mentioned, the pegs weren't quite far enough away to put my feet on them...but I found some fairly wide flat ones on ebay and used them to rest my ankles on.  That worked pretty well for me.

I installed the factory engine guard last month just before my husband and I left home (Eldridge, Iowa) for South Dakota badlands, etc.  I put on highway pegs with the O-rings.  Because of the slant of the engine guard side section, the pegs also slanted and my foot caused the rings to roll.  Not good.   ::)   I took my bike to our local welding shop and they welded a bead on the hinges to stop the pegs in a flat position.  Perfect!  I love them!  I wish I had put them on years ago!   8)
