Title: What's a good tail bag for the S40?
Post by Tammi on 08/02/05 at 12:32:38

The title of the thread says it all.

I'm looking to add a bit of storage to my S40, and I don't like tank bags.

I also think saddle bags ruin the sleek look of the bike -- plus I don't need that much storage, nor do I want to spend that much money!

So, any recommendations on a tail bag?

What has worked/not worked for people here?

I'm especially concerned that the bag NOT be so long that it obscures the tail light.

Personally, I don't need it to be waterproof or have a slip-on waterproof cover, since I'll never ride in the rain ( ;) )

If anyone has photos to share, so much the better.

Thanks. Tammi

My kids bought me a "trunk" for Christmas, found out quick that it didn't work for me. It slid down on the taillight and rubbed. Probably if you screw it on instead of using the straps it could work.

If you have a sissy bar to mount one on, I have heard good things about the Jafrum bags on Ebay.

Whoa, Dynobob, those are some BIG bags!

I'm thinking of something much, much smaller.

Something along the lines of the $85 22 Liter Sport Tail Bag from Roadgear:

 http://www.roadgear.com/catalog/index.cfm?Series=2&SeriesTitle=Luggage

Or the $90 16 Liter SuperSport bag from RKA:

(But I can get these for below MSRP on eBay.)

Also, the Kuryakyn Gran Tour Bag (http://www.motorcycle-luggage.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?screen=CTGY&Category_Code=Kuryakyn) has gotten good reviews, though I'd personally opt for something smaller - like the Roll Bag... that is, if I didn't already have a T-Bags Universal Expandable (http://www.tbags.com/detail.aspx?ID=17&SelectedCat=4) (of which I rarely use anything but the Roll Bag).

Hmmm...ok...  ;D ;)

They are modular it seems and the top portion is removable. Check out T-bags and Willie and Max...

I've tried a variety of bags on Savage and Intruder. Including a backrest bag/roll bag backpack unit, the really expensive ones. Have switched to an internal frame daypack from the local college bookstore. $30ish, Sports Plus brand, and when I get to work, the frame upper section slides up and wheels are on the base if I don't want to carry it.

If I wanted a luggage compatible motorcycle, I'd buy a Kawi Nomad or Concourse, or an HD Geezer Glide in one form or another. Stubby wheelbase cruisers are for fun, not function.

Heck at least with saddlebags it wont obstruct ur view like some of those bags lol.  I do agree that my bags kinda ruin my sleek look but heck I can carry alot without an obstructed view.  Maybe u should tow a small trailor behind ya :)  just teasin

I use the saddlebags for groceries, jacket, hat/helmet storage.  Laptop didn't fit.  Went with a laptop   backpack.   Backpack is better than any bike bag as you are already carrying it when you dismount.  A lot more secure as well.  Backpacks come in all sizes.

wow kewl as heck.  I was wondering how I could attach my laptop securely to my bike.  I got streets and trips and was thinking of getting the gps sensor as well as playing my music and ect.  hmm im sure they have a usb remote thingy I could control the songs with.
