Title: Simple electrical questions
Post by vroom1776 on 07/27/05 at 07:48:48

Hey folks,

2 simple (I hope) questions:

1)  The rectifier is bolted to the rear fender.  Does the fender act as  a heat sink for the rectifier? (i.e. when I yank the fender off, do I have to bolt the rectifier to another large piece of metal?)

2)  What does the wire mounted to the clutch lever do?  Can I get by without it?

Many thanks,

KS

The cable on the clutch lever is the starter-interlock switch.  The starter won't engage unless the clutch lever is pulled in.

I put the rectifier in the airbox inlet under the seat and pulled off the air box door. Works great.

As for the clutch interlock, if you trace the wires back to under the seat, you can snip them, solder the stubs together, and cover with heat shrink tubing. One less cheap plastic widget to worry about breaking.

AHA! Thanks!

Now the question is, do I really want to hack up my toe shifter, and weld up a jockey shifter and clamp the stock clutch lever to it?  (not expecting an answer ;) )
