Title: Trip Odometer for Savage?
Post by skepticalnewt on 07/21/05 at 09:49:15

I found this on the web. I think this could work as a trip odometer/computer/whatever for the Suzuki Savage.

1st off I wouldnt get a wireless one because I heard the alternator sometimes makes interference.
I have heard that sigma is the brand to buy.  I called them yesterday and they told me their older units go up to 180 mph and the new ones go to 199 mph

Besides there are plenty of sigmas on ebay and i think there is a model 1400 or is the 1200 that u wanna avoid for sme reason.

in fact im gonna go buy me the 1600 right now

The Sigma is a good choice. Stay away from the wireless units, they don't work .

Have this installation on the bike for over a year now, approx 110 hours of bike time to full satisfaction.

:)This topic has come up many times in the past, with lots of creative solutions to the LS650's lack of trip-meter (why Suzuki hasn't rectified this glaring ommission stumps me?) ... a very inexpensive (read "cheap") solution I use, is a luggage lock; with 3 roll-up numbers that I carry in a fanny pack strapped to the sissy bar. Each time I gas-up, I set the lock with the last 3 digits on the Bike's odometer ... saves my poor 44 year-old brain the trouble of trying to remember when I last tossed dino-juice down the tank! Works like a charm and cost next to nothing!
Gotta admit, that Sigma computer looks cool though!

Does anyone have any idea on the
best way to attach the small sensing
unit to the front disk ? and also the
magnet to the spokes ?

I have a Topeak unit but it normally
attaches the sensing unit by using plastic
ties that Topeak provide. These will not fit
around the disk so I was thinking a glue
of some kind. My local hardware store
has many kinds but which to select ?
Gorilla, Liquid Nails ? Also the magnet
in the spoke needs to be connected
to the spoke in some fashion as the
unit supplied does not fit the spokes.

The gap where the spoke fits in the
jaws of the magnet housing is too small.
I "massaged" the opening of the spoke
magnet housing a bit wider but now,
even though it fits the spoke - the
screw clamping the spoke has not
enough threads to turn against and
does not hold the magnet securely.

Kropatchek has linked his pics above but he's gone into more detail in other posts.  Do a couple of searches and you should find it.
