Title: Differant Tail Light
Post by hellstorm on 07/05/05 at 11:47:26

Has anyone ever swapped the stock tail light (3 wire) with a Sparto tail light (2 wire)? I  just need to know how to wire the thing. I'm more mechanical  than electrical. The turn signals were simple 2 wires to 2 wires, but that 3rd wire has me scratching my head. Thanks.

it's lead.lead. ground. black with white stripe is the ground, i belive the brown is brake, white tail.

Thanks, but it's still doesn't work that way either. I'll keep watching if anyone has any ideas.

Is this light grounded through the fender mounting?  It might be that the 2 wires are the hot leads for the 2 separate lights with a built-in chassis ground.  Did it come with a bulb?  Does the bulb or socket have 1 or 2 contacts on the bottom?

You might want to go to the Technical Corner and find the electrical schematic (good luck doing that).

Easy. Here it is: Electrical Schematics (http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?board=tech;action=display;num=1099317926)

Thanks for clearing that up and saving the day  :D

Now, we just need an update on the tail light problem..

Thanks Susan for the schematic, it's alot more differant than the clymers book I have. Found out that whatever pulls the brake light switch cable along with the brake pedal wasn't there. Fixed it! Ok, I now have functional brake light, but no tail light. I also found out my starter solenoid is bad. Getting a new one. I will probably try tapping into the headlight circuit for the tail light. let you know what happens.

Have always thought that the LS' stock "box-like" tail light lacked character ... an Iron Cross tail light or one of those round ones like found on the rear of old pickups would look kind cool ... anybody evr try to fit anything like that? Got pics?

I thought the same thing thats why i went with the Sparto tail light. I considered the Iron Cross, kinda pricey though. I just always try to be differant and I guess more difficult (I hate electrical stuff) than everyone else. I'll get some pics as soon as I can.

Sluggo runs a stepside truck tailight on his,or at least used to... I was going to wire in the stock 1949 Dodge tailight off my project junker, but the bucket collapsed when Itook it apart. And a modern bucket has different screw locations... >:(

My stepson plans to add an FLH rear fender and tombstone or beehive light to the bike now that he is the caretaker of it. The stock set-up is too "dirtbike-esque".Not as bad as the VS800, but still...

ask and you shall recieve.

it's off an early 50's international flat bed. i refurbished it with the parts from the stock tail light.

the lower lights are brake lights also.

i went to the side mounted light and plate to fill the offset of the shock.
