Title: Upper Fork diameter - Flyscreen owners
Post by PerrydaSavage on 12/18/04 at 08:20:35

8)Got my new Nat. Cycle Flyscreen from e-bay yesterday ... sweet! Anyhoo, it comes with a variety of different thickness rubber gaskets to go between the fork mtg. brackets and the fork itself ... a little chart tells you which gaskets to select depending on the diameter of your forks ... Question; what is the diameter in millimeters of the upper fork legs of the Savage ... I don't have a micrometer, so I tried measuring with an adjustable wrench (to simulate a micrometer) and a tape measure ... got approx. 35mm? Is this right? The chart included with the Flyscreen gives different gasket selections for 33, 34.6 & 35mm.

Recall an earlier post . Diameter is 38 mm ( as measured with the micrometer)

;DThanks! 38mm it was! The proper gaskets for a 38mm dia. fork were supplied with the shield ... worked like a charm! Managed to install the Flyscreen this afternoon ... was a bit chilly working in my unheated shed (temp was -4deg C or approx. 27deg F), but installed the shield on with a minimum of cuss words!
Here's a pic of the installed shield;

Does anyone know the diameter of the lower forks? I am contemplating adding a set of running "Fog" lights low on the forks as an added way to be seen.

Upper end of the lower tubes 57.88 mmm (2.2785")
Lower portion 49.06 (1.9315")

Oh, I love those digital, switchable ( mm to inch) vernier calipers, everybody should have one.

Hi Michael ... ahhhh, it was -4C (27F) when I installed my shield on Dec. 19th last year (note post date ;))

All same bud ... we're having a rather cool, wet Spring here in eastern Nfld. ... daytime highs of about 10C, nitetime lows around 2-4C ... certainly less than ideal Ridin' weather ...
