Hi!

I ordered the Pathblazer headlight modulator and was
wondering if any of you installed that one already and
maybe has some tips for me?

Thanks!

I have installed the Commagination.com headlight modulator. Some people go crazy when they spot you behind them, so when I know for sure they see me, I switch it off.

No trick/ tips just follow the instructions and you'r allright.
BTW I wired it in for the highbeam.

Thanks for the reply, bro.
Where did you install the sensor?
I assume it's on a separate wire like the Pathblazer?

I was gonna wire it for highbeam too.
Drives some folks nuts, huh?  ;D

I installed the Pathblazer P115W-S in the Savage this spring.  It was a plug in type.  There was no trick to it.  I took the headlight bezel off (two screws at bottom), removed the bulb with wires attached, unhooked the wires, placed the modulator on the headlight, and reconnected the plug to the modulator instead of directly to the head light.  I had to make sure the wires were coiled so they did not get caught on reassembly, but it was easy to get back into the bucket.

The sensor wire comes out through the hole in the bucket back. The sensor I mounted with a Nylon Wire tie to the break hose up near the break resevoir.

Did you get the plug in or the splice in?

I love it.  I really get noticed which is what I wanted.  If I am at a stop light and a car is infront of me, I switch it to low beam just to be kind.

I had a person flash me with their car lights the other day.  They had a modulator installed in the car (legal?) as well.

Hi Clark,

thanks for the reply.
I ordered the plugin kind P115W-S as well. Should be here by tomorrow.
Sounds like a very straight forward installation. Nice!  :)

Where you mounted the sensor sounds like a good place
to put it too.

Thanks again.

ya know, i've never heard anyone talk about the passing light switch on the machine mines a 04 and it works well. when i see a car in a turn lane, or at an right angle i just flip it a few time and it gets the job done.  does any one else use the passing light for this.

I had the switch on my BMW and I think I used it a couple of times in the three years I had the bike.

Ok,
I put the P115W-S Pathblazer in a few minutes ago.
Time for a beer..  ;D

It took under 10 minutes and was so easy, that I feel silly for
even inquiring about it..  :P

But, for everyone who's planning on installing one:
There's enough room in the bucket for the modulator and
even for the excess wire from the sensor.
No problem to feed the sensor wire along the other wires through
the grummet in the bucket either.

Why did I put a modulator in?
A good friend of mine almost ate it a week ago, when he
got cut off by some tool who was hanging a left and didn't see him.
The bike's totaled, but he was somehow able to walk away from it.
90 bucks seems little money to better the odds..

I got mine at RideSafer.com (http://www.ridesafer.com/).  It's a combo pack with the DiamondStar headlight modulator and the BackOFF taillight modulator.  They also sell these separately as well as other brands but it's a pretty good deal to get both for $100.  I installed the BackOFF a while back but hadn't bothered with the headlight yet.  I think I will very soon.

So I'm too late to answer your questions. Glad you did the installation allready.
I put the sensor on the throttlecable and wireloom with a TyWrap.

And never feel silly when you ask a question.

I don't know if it's a regional thing or what, but where I live, if you flash lights at someone, you're telling them to go ahead.  So I don't use it.

I'm also looking to install a headlight modulator.  I was going to go with the Diamond Star, since I'm happy with the Back Off brake light module -- but it sounds like the Pathblazer's installation is much easier.  Is there any other difference between the two brands?

I live in Georgia, about 40 miles NE of Atlanta.  (I'm originally from NY, but I don't know how things are done there -- I took the subway all the time.)

Strangely, the salesman at the dealership where I bought my S40 told me to flash the headlight at someone to warn them when I was going to go.  Everyone else I mentioned that to, including my MSF instructor, said I'd be crazy to do that.  Go figure.

FWIW Kisan makes a modulator that fits in the OEM light socket.  I'd advise against it.

Several times mine quit working until I took the light apart and wiggled the bulb.

I'll replace it with a hardwired modulator.

It DID get me into the habit of checking the lights before each ride, however...

So Gitarzan, the Diamondstar modulator would be the best bet, then?

Also, I've passed a few bikes lately with flashing/pulsing headlights.  I'm guessing that's what the modulators do -- but I was surprised at how slow the headlights pulsed.  They didn't seem to be pulsing more than maybe twice per second.  (In fact, when you post here, look at the row of smileys over the text box where you type -- the 7th from the left, "shocked", with the eyes that bug out.  The headlight flashed the same speed or maybe even a little slower than the eyes bug.)

I thought a modulator would look almost more like a rapid flicker than a steady flash -- am I wrong?
