Title: Finished Product. Post by Nightrain on 05/19/05 at 08:48:40 I finally got the custom threaded rod that I ordered from www.midwestcontrol.com Here is the finished product for my forward controls. They make the Savage a completely different bike. You would not believe the huge difference that a mere 6 inches can make unless you drive it. I decided to keep the kickstand kill switch. Keep the shiny side up! ;D http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/msc63/Picture013.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/msc63/Picture012.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/msc63/Picture006.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/msc63/Picture005.jpg |

Title: Re: Finished Product. Post by WD on 05/19/05 at 23:39:22 Did you have to replace the lower motor mount bolts with longer ones? Been looking at adding forward controls, haven't found a good source of hardened stainless metric bolts. If the bolts need changed, ought as well go for the good stuff. -WD |

Title: Re: Finished Product. Post by Nightrain on 05/20/05 at 04:10:33 Thanks for all the kind words......FYI (The directions to make them are in the tech section on this board) The total investment was low, but like I said in before, I scored a lot of freebies. The metal I used was an old bench grinder bracket made of 3/8 steel that I got for free and cut up. The local high school did the welding for free. I would say that my total investment was about $40.00 including bolts, nutz, washers, the threaded rod, and paint. I did not have to replace the lower motor mount bolts. These controls use 100% of your existing hardware with the exception of the threaded rod that is used for the shifter. you can get all of your bolts, nutz & washers at ACE hardware here in the states. I will post a pic of me on the bike. Until I finished this mod, I had serious doubts about keeping this bike. It is just too small for me. I was riding around with my a** on the bit*h pad. You see, I have a bad back and bad knees. I cannot be cramped up for long periods of time. I need to stretch out. With the forward controls, it is a different bike. If I sit as far back on the seat as I can go, I can stretch my legs out to where the are competely straight. ;D I cant wait to do a long ride. Next mod......Seat lift. |

Title: Re: Finished Product. Post by Greg_650 on 05/20/05 at 06:23:26 The forward controls look pretty good. Now, I think an OEM engine guard would fit very nicely in the middle. IMHO ::) |
Title: Re: Finished Product. Post by Red_Wine on 05/20/05 at 13:34:15 Agree with the others, a nice job... I'm planning to copy the idea, but the design may be slightly different in my case... will post pics if I ever get to do it, since I'm short and don't really need them... RW |
