How about a south Missourian? Depending on when it is I might be able to make it or meet you. I'm suppossed to take a ride to Arkansas with my brother-in-law from Indianna sometime in "late June." Don't know when or if he has specific plans.

First, I need to troubleshoot the electrical problem keeping me from starting mine.  Then I'd need to see if I could work it into my schedule, which seems to be fuller than usual.  That stuff aside, I would love to participate.

I spent the night there (Ft. Gibson Lake) last weekend water was 72 degrees

The water needs to get just a little bit warmer then the whitebass will move out to the main lake and on a night with no or very little moon - it's fill the cooler for a fish fry time!

That will work out great here. I will probably stay the night  eather camp out or get a room in Mena. Camping out would be fun. I can check on lodging rates if anyone else is intersted. Just let me know.

I'm still working on being able to do this one.  Got a lot of stuff going on but I'm hoping to clear the weekend.  Got dealt a setback yesterday evening with an elbow injury during hapkido practice.  At the moment, riding and a lot of wrenching are out of the question.  I'll just have to see how quickly it recovers.

So, you have been playing a little too hard eh?   I pray for a quick recovery from your injury.   Be careful man.
When I was younger and physically able, I loved the martial arts.  I moved around a lot back then and usually ended up in a different style each time I moved, but it was a lot of fun and the variety was great too.  I wish I could still get into that level of physical activity.

Unfortunately, I can't say for sure yet.  I have a number of things kind of up in the air at the moment.  Also, I want to be fairly sure my cylinder head is okay since I realized I did the head seal plug deal without setting the engine to TDC.  I haven't noticed any problems (other than the broken bolt I replaced) but I am not riding any more until I inspect it better and get everything retorqued at TDC.  I will definitely let y'all know though by next Monday and hopefully anyone coming from the North Texas area can meet and ride together.  I know I sure want to.  Cross your fingers.

Well it turns out I won't be able to make the ride. In fact, my BIL is coming from Indiana for a ride but we have to get back home on the 24th. I'm thinking of taking him that direction. We could ride to Hot Springs the 22nd, ride Talimena the 23rd and return home the 24th. My question is, how long does it take to ride the Talimena from Mena to the end in Oklahoma? Could we ride from Hot Springs to the end and back in one day?  If not we could at least do part of it. I also want to take him up Hickory Nut Mountain overlooking Lake Quachita, what a beatiful sight of the lake and islands. It's east of Mount Ida, the town.

The web site says it's 54 miles and takes 1 hour and 10 minutes to drive.

Yeah, I kinda figured that was measured by driving at the posted limit non-stop.

Post by sunny on 06/03/05 at 12:22:32

well, we've decided a date, now we need a meeting place(s) and a time to meet for the ride. as well as a possibly for certain list of attendees.

also, we need to know who has ridden with others in state patrol formation before and who has only ridden solo.

Title: Re: north texans/oklahomians/etc
Post by Savage_Rob on 06/03/05 at 13:00:39

I'm still unsure as to whether I can go but I have never ridden in formation nor am I familiar with it.  Seems like I read something once but it's gone now.

I hate to put you folks off and I sure want to make the ride this weekend but I think the chances are extremely slim at this point.  The last couple of rides have let me know that the tendons in my elbow are not really healed enough for that ride.  While my instinct has been to say skr00 it and bring some Aleve, my intellect insists I'd be paying for it for at least a couple of months.  I think I'm gonna have to wish you guys a fine ride and find a closer "mountain" for this one.  However, it may be possible to meet up with some of y'all coming from the DFW area when you start off... if not, definitely sometime soon.

Ok the day is drawing closer. Sunny is going to Coordinate the group coming from the Dallas area. I am going to do the same for all from the north. If you are interested email or PM me and we will setup a meeting place and time. It is my intent to reach Talihina, OK the Western start of the scenic drive by noon on 6/25/05. Anyone what to meet me in Tulsa, Muskogee or in Warner, which is located at the crossroads of I-40 and Highway 64. A good place for those from Ark. I plan on taking the leisurely way down. Two lane roads hardly no traffic and plenty of gas stops ::) along the way!!!! 8) 8)
