As everyone said - Red and Blue to the positive terminal on the coil, Green to the Negative and Black to ground on the frame.  Works like a charm.  Now i know for sure - my idle is correct :)

Hey Perry.  Being a fellow a fellow Canuck you can order it from

http://www.chrometoys.com.

The tach itself is from MotoVan.

http://www.motovan.com/cat/2004moto_en/html/2004moto_en.html

It is on page 417 and is the "Mini Tacho 60MM".  They have a couple others on the same page.  The only reason i picked this one is because they had it in stock in the store.  I'm an instant gratification kind of guy and hate waiting for things in the mail.  I went for a quick ride last night.  Needle didn't jump around at all, but up around 4000 RPM she vibrates.  I'm going to play with the mount a bit more and add some rubber washers or something to see if it helps.  Don't get me wrong, even though it was vibrating, the tach kept a steady readable reading.  At 85$ this tach is a good deal.

So where's the pic of it mounted on the bike?  That's the stuff I wanna see.

How does the tach work?  Works great - or did you mean something else.

Actually what i found surprising is that I think i may have been pushing my bike a little hard.  If 6000 rpm is redline then i've pretty much been redlining it every shift...well at least when there's no one in front of me here in town.

i meant how does it sense what the revs are..it says its electronic..does that mean no mechanical cable?

No cable, just wires to the coil and a ground - counts the spark pulses/2

Sorry but this is all i gots.  That's me shaking trying to take a pic without a flash.....not the bike.  I'm sure there's more attractive tachometers but it works fine fer me.  How about that cheesy skull??
