Title: I'm a happy camper!!!
Post by WD on 04/27/05 at 23:54:06

This has been one of the best days since I got hurt...

Job is a go! Should start middle of next week. Parts, bike sales, MC salvage. Base pay, plus commission on ALL used parts/bike sales, health insurance.

Changed oil in the bike today. Bought a new battery today. Should take 5 minutes in the morning to modify the battery box (that way it doesn't matter what battery I buy). Getting new plate and tabs in the morning, riding in the afternoon. Should be interesting.

Getting the bike title back from the kid in the morning.

The new paint is perfect! I've never seen bomb-can paint flow so well. Can't wait to see it once it's cleared. Now I just need to find a good offset color for the tank graphics and get some more pin-up art...  Let's see, still need to toss or paint the belt gaurd, paint the bars, triple trees, fork sliders, swap tailight for something "smoother", change the front turn signals and paint them and the rears. When it's done, the only chrome will be the fork legs, which are already covered between the triple trees, hopefully gaiter covered between bottom tree and sliders. Oh yeah, delete the reflectors and smooth/repaint the frame. This bike WILL be chromeless. Chrome  :P bleah.

Probably going to take all summer just to finish the tins. I thought riding weather was here, until we had thunder and lightning about midnite-thirty.  :(  Need to decide whether I want the signals color matched or a contrasting color...I'm leaning towards color matched. The bars, risers, triple trees, frame, front signals, shocks, headlight trim  and lower fork legs will be gloss black epoxy paint, once I manage to grind the chrome off. The tins will be candy orange/burnt copper metallic with probably claret pearl scallops or such (left over paint from the Celica GT-S). Lots of pin-up art stickers.  Now if I could just track down an orange metalflake vinyl springer seat and matching grips...

I don't know why, but there is just something right about a classic paint scheme and full chrome delete. Never have liked chrome...  ::) :P ::)

I can't wait for the job to start. It'll sure feel good to get out of the house and back to doing what I love to do.

Grats on the new job WD, sounds like the bike is coming a long great.

I just hope you don't find too many Savage's in the salvage yard. Rather see part bikes, than rusting bikes  ;D

Great.  I'm a little jealous too 'cause I have always wanted to do motorcycle repairs, but my mechanical/electrical career just went another direction...and I'm afraid that it wouldn't be stable enough for a career change.  Even though I know I could do it easily.  Maybe someday...Hmmmm

Congrats on getting to do what you really want to do!!!!

I feel sorta the same.  I am mechanically inclined but trained in electronics and telecommunications.  All of my mechanical experience is shadetree and is somewhat limited.  Though I enjoy wrenching very much, I doubt it would be a wise career move at this point for me.  Maybe someday though.

I'm starting the job May 4th. Went up yesterday, talked with the manager, assistant manager, one of the owners, and a couple of the general employees. I'm going to fit right in. I'll have to try really hard not to take over.

I'll still be the "night watchman" here. No problem.

Rode around the parking lot yesterday. Front brake works great. Rear drum was full of rusty water, which is now all over the bike. But, the brake still works...well, if I remember to let off the gas when I hit the brakes... ::) I'm rustier than I expected to be. Oh well, nothing wrong with getting back into riding at a slower than expected pace.
