help !
I have put a H.D muffler on my bike ... here the problem
I blew the seal on it ( muffler seal} .so I'm tring it again ... has any one had this problem ? I'm useing the H.D BRACKET and the seal came from suzki dealship
I did replace the main jet in the carb. and did the spacer.. can;t tell right now how it is running cuz of the exhaust leak that I'm having :-[
any ideal or help

If You mean the gasket between the header and the muffler- I don't know how did it happen exept if You did not tighten the clamp.
I have never had this problem with an original gasket, so the only thing I can tell is- get a new gasket and make sure when You tighten the clamp that You realy do it and there is not any play or leak.

well let see .. I wanted to use a gutted out H.D. pipe ... that not a good Ideal to much back presser ...
so I went with one with a baffer ... not as loud but I think it better then the stock one. and I did the jet and spacer ... I do like the way the bike run even with the seal problem .. I did go get a new one and hopfully will work on it this weekend .. I started the motorcycle safely class today ... so kind on tied up with that.
I think why I lost the seal is I change out the 2 H.D. pipe and so I reuse the seal ... that didn't work so we know ... lol

I did not use a seal or spacer, but some folks do. Instead, I got a steel muffler clamp for 1.75" pipe from PepBoys - the kind that looks like a U-bolt with two nuts and a semi-circular "clamp".

It's extremely strong and ugly, but it is covered by the chrome cover when complete.

I tightened the cr*p out of the clamp U-bolt nuts and made the sportster muff conform to the stock savage pipe. No leaks that I can tell. It worked for me.

The stock clamp was not strong enough to snug the Sportster pipe down. I'll see if I can take pics.

If you can get a hold of a Harley muffler clamp it is strong enough to tighten the connection so it will not leak. I use one when I changed my '02 over to a sportster muffler and never have had any problem with exhaust leaks. Ed L.

Could be right about the HD clamp. Mine was the poor Savage clamp, rusty at that. The u-bolt clamp was the last ditch effort before picking up the stick welder.

My glaspac and fishtail pipe were muffler clamped for about 5 years... ::) to each other AND to the hanger bracket. Whatever works.
