Title: pics of mufflers
Post by gazab44 on 04/18/05 at 01:17:39

As there are so many questions about mufflers what do you all think about posting a pic of your bikes with none stock mufflers and naming them....i think it would be helpful, especially to us newbies, to see what they actually look like on the savage,

If you look at mine on the map, you'll see a 12 inch (30cm) motoasia glaspack and 29 inch fishtail end pipe. Crusty, nasty, lousy sound. JC Whitney garbage. I'd repost the pic here, but I don't know how. Have to wait until my wife wakes up, she's the computer guru, I can barely find the on button... let alone figure out where the pic is stashed in her computer and then attempt to transfer it over. I'd just get mad and stick a speaker to the tower (again).

Stock Sportster muffler on my 98 Savage - now I need to get a slimmer chrome cover.  Stock one looks like a trumpet now.

bobo thanks for the pic. Did you slip it stright on the stock pipe or did you have a offset pipe made to keep it away from the brake? Ive read that some have problems with the HD blackining the rear brake. 8)

I just put it straight on, no adapter pipe; and yes it does blacken the brake lever like a cajun blackens redfish.

I washed the bike for the install thread on the Tech section, so you can see the black does come off but it will come right back when you ride.

The chrome is outstanding on the HD muffler.  I can't describe the difference between it and the stock equipment.  The plating looks a mile deep.

Plus, with no decals on my bike, the muffler's HD EPA information really confuses people as to what the bike really is.  That and the HD fork bag (gift from neighbor).

They have to go down on the motor to see "Suzuki"

I'd rather have Suzuki than HD . If I wanted HD I was going to buy one.

Careful there Shawn... I'll take a 6 volt, kickstart only, magneto fired Knuckle, Pan, or Flatthead Big Twin HD over my Savage anyday of the week, and twice on the weekends.  When you've tried REAL HDs (1903-1964), nothing else really can compare. The old pre-unit British bikes are decent (except for the Lucas electrical parts, bleah  :P ), pre-1953 Indians are good too. Most of the time, I'd choose a 65-69 Pan/Shovel over the Savage as well. 1970 up BT or any Sportster, I'd choose the Savage.

I wanted another HD when I found the Savage. All I could find affordably in HD were Evos. I basically bought the Savage out of spite. And if I was offered a complete rolling basket pre-65 HD or pre-53 Indian in trade for it, the Savage would be gone. It's a matter of taste, the thumper is "cute", I'd rather have flat black and evil.

My problem is that I do not like "big" bikes.  The only Harley that would get my attention would be a 45.

Which one do you want? I've got THE hook-up for 45 HDs.

Unfortunately I have neither the time nor the money nor the space.  I was supposed to move Amanda into Helena's old room but then the city threatened to tow the '66 Beetle so I had to knock down the wall between her room and the garage to stash it off the street and now I have a 17-year-old mad at me.  And the 16-year-old she shares a room with.

I have about five more years before I can retire and move to some acreage so I can keep a couple of toys around.

Personally I like the looks of the SuperTrapp.  Anyone got a story (read instructions/insight) on installing one and info on what carb jets work best with it.
