Post by suzyssuzi on 03/26/05 at 18:52:54

well i sold the 86 and just put my 04 on the road , had the rear wheel off to install the new fender and now there is a whine from belt , checked tension, align etc. and all is ok, bike had 5 km on it did not drive it at all only today for the first time so i dont know if it was there before. is this normal for a new bike ? again thanks to all for your help and inspiration.

Mine was that way, the belt and pulley needed to seat together a bit before it quieted down. Belt probably has some mold release on it making some spots "sticky". Once things wear together a bit, it should settle down and sound more like your old bike's belt.

Suzi, I had my rear tire off when I repainted and the belt whined - no HOWLED - after reassembly.  I had the thing too tight.  I backed off the tension and the noise went away.  FYI.
