When you start the bike, there's normally enough residual gas in the carb to fire it up. Once it's running the intake vacuum opens a valve on the petcaulk and lets gas flow. If your bike sits long enough to allow the gas to dry out or otherwise not be there anymore, the bike won't start unless you turn the petcaulk to PRIME. Gas will flow unfettered into the carb and you can start it after a few moments. Then you turn it back to the normal down position. Some folks reports that leaving it on prime causes no uncontrolled flow of gas, spilling out or into the crankcase, but the manual says don't leave it there, and therefore I don't. I see no reason to tempt fate. At least not at the current price of gasoline. |

Try this: 1. unscrew and disconnect the gas tank 2. push forward 3. up 4. back I don't want to say , the gas tank will go out by itself, but I think the "push forward and then up" is the key. You might slightly pull left and twist with the "up". |

It is however very irritating the stankin thang is right in the perfect spot to cause a headache during tank removal/replacement. |
