Title: It runs (sort of)...
Post by WD on 03/21/05 at 16:37:50

Fired the old scoot up today. Had to jump it off with the truck battery. Never have had any luck pop starting it.

New spark plug. Stale gas. Filthy air filter.  5 year old battery. No muffler.

Looks like all I need is front tire, battery, registration, brake pads/shoes, maybe some fresh high test to resurrect the gas. I'm stoked!!! 8) Already have the new tire, wonder where the spoons are?

Scared the crap out of the neighbor.  ;D He thought a HUEY was landing in the parking lot! Guess I better put the muffler back on it.

Good looking scooter -- I like that long pipe:

I don't care for the chrome plastic strip around the bottom edge of everything.  It draws the visual focus away from other topside lines.  Otherwise, nice...

I like the lack of front fender.  I was thinking of trying that too.

WD, Is that a custom seat?

Title: Re: It runs (sort of)...

Yep, it is a custom seat. Factory plastic pan. 2 layers of ensolite camping pad foam. Waterbuffalo leather. Fender bib matches.

The plastic stuff looks better to me than the factory unfinished edges, however, the bike is due for a respray. Not sure what will go on next.

The front fender has been scrapped. The grip and lever covers have been slit off with a razor blade and scrapped. The wires are going in the bars, or under the seat, with micro switches to control those functions. I figure I can knock another 20-30 pounds off the bike, and make it run better.

I never tire of "ruining (according to my wife)" a perfectly good bike.  ;D Still trying to do a different rear fender, permanent rigid frame, girder front end. I'm stuck in the 30s bike-tech-wise.

LOL!

Maybe you're right on the trim.  My bike is black and the cheesy edgework tends to fade into the shadows.

How do them apehangers feel?  I heard they make the arms go numb.

I'm tall enough where the stock bars put my elbows in my stomach. I like the apehangers. If they are the right height, your arms still are straight out or only slightly uphill. When you go over 20" rise is where the numbness comes in. I had a set of 20" apes for the bike, they looked goofy. Shop was out of 16 inchers. Bought the 13.65 inchers, made the bike ridable. It all depends on what is comfortable to you. I grew up riding highbar choppers/bobbers, so stock feels horrible to me.

My seat is also less than half of stock thickness. Perfection! Now I just need to lower the rear of the bike a couple inches, hardtail it, and add a foot clutch handshift set-up. Just what I prefer to ride. 'Course, I wil need to spring mount the seat if I hard tail it. Gotta make some kind of concession to my back. :'(

What do you think Git, could I pass for Sluggo's younger brother on the Volcano Run? We do both dwarf our scoots. :D Even on level ground, The seat barely is past my knees. Guess I'd best make a set of forward controls soon...
