Title: Bike towing
Post by Paladin on 03/20/05 at 18:44:19

Does anyone make a thingie that will slip into a Class I reciever hitch that will hold the front wheel of a motorcycle for towing purposes?  Something like:

Yes I just patented it tonight.  Now looking for investors to begin production.

Man that looks like it would put a lot of stress on parts not designed for it

What I would like is to be able to attach the Savage to the Beetle so that when I take the car in for servicing I amd not stuck waiting at the dealership for a couple of hours.  It would only be a 5 mile tow at speeds upto 40 mph.  Stress maybe, but I doubt it would be enough to harm the bike.

The Beetle can take a class I (1.25") reciever hitch with upto 200 pounds hitch weight.  The one Sluggo found requires a 2" class III or IV reciever.

now that sounds like a reasonable tow - had this thought of folks pulling a bike across the country at 70mph by the front tire - man that has to give the forks and such an odd directional stress

I've seen a rack that fits into a 2" receiver that the entire bike rides on. Very popular with the off road crowds in the area. Supposed to have a capacity of 500lbs so a Savage could be transported on it as long as there is room for the handlebars. Of course getting the bike up on it would be the hard part.

The New Beetle can have a 1.25" Class I receiver, not a 2"  I need a light weight carrier that can handle a maximum of 400 pounds, maximum 200 pounds on the hitch.  I'll be buying one from Gitarzan as soon as he has it in production.

Or I might build the prototype.
