Title: update on new (to me) savage
Post by erik on 02/28/05 at 15:25:32

Picked the bike up several hours ago and rode it about 15 miles to a restaurant for lunch.  All the way there oil was leaking all around the head, to the point of spraying drops on the saddlebags and surrounding chrome.  when I got to the restaurant I wiped it all down with a paper towel and was having slight buyyers remorse as I tried to eat my taco.  Funny thing, when I rode the 12 miles back home there wasnt any accumulation of oil, so I sprayed degreaser all over the engine, hosed it down and went for a 1 hour ride WOOPEE! not a single drop.  The previous owner's tags were 1 and  half years out of date and he told me it hasnt been ridden in that time, near as I can figure the seal got dry but softened up and began working again sometime during my ride.  My first thought was the oil level went down enought to stem the flood, but it's right in the middle of the sight glass (whew).
I do have a couple other questions, what have people done with these footpegs? anything wider on the market, maybe half boards? this could make or break it with the wife.
second, anyone have a stock pipe they want to sell? mine is all blue and yellow.  thanks.

Lots of people have buyer's remorse when they eat a taco.  Chili can give you even more remorse.

The after market on footpegs kinda stinks.  Replacements are about the same, just prettier.

There's a number of threads here about pipe discoloring.  Personally, I like it, but you can clean them up with a little elbow grease.  They are par for the course on the stock bike.

Hey there!!!!!!!!! COUGH UP THE KEY AND LET THE LADY RIDE HER OWN BIKE.   :P  New driver pegs leads to matching passenger pegs and maybe grips.  Everything must be properly accessorized.   ;D  The pegs could stand to be wider but it's not a big issue for me.  Welcome aboard to both of you.
