Title: 86 Rebuild Post by woodworker on 02/25/05 at 15:29:17 Hello All; This is my first post on this forum and I thought there might be some out there who would be interested in this rebuild. I purchased the bike new in July 1986, since then, the wife and I have put 30,000 miles on it travelling the country sides in the U.S. and Canada (slowed down the last 4 years, as the wife has had knee problems- must be getting old!) I knew near the end of last summer that the top end had to be rebuilt so I decided to do a number on it. The following link (if it works) is a condensed description of the rebuild. http://members.shaw.ca/kenerechook/savage.htm |
Title: Re: 86 Rebuild Post by Paladin on 02/25/05 at 20:08:17 The address should be between the url /url tags. A Savage 695! http://savage.andruschak.net/woodworker_AV.gif That tall sissy bar is interesting. Does the steel go all the way up? |

Title: Re: 86 Rebuild Post by PerrydaSavage on 02/26/05 at 02:41:30 8)Very nice job on the re-build man ... roughly how much did it cost you (if you don't mind me askin')? Love the seat! Wouldn't mind re-doing mine in brown leather ... I think it would look great with the teal green paint! |

The steel is the original height, I just extended the plastic in the seat with aluminum and re-upholstered. Thanks for the info on the tags, I'll know better nest time. |

I would estimate total cost for parts and machining to be approximately $2,400 Canadian. As for the seat, when I recovered it I just used dark blue naugahyde and painted it with "Duplicolor's" vinyl and fabric paint which adheres and wears quite well. |

As we speak, Kuryakyn #4507 long right angle mounts with iso pegs are making their way here via UPS. |
Title: Re: 86 Rebuild Post by Michael on 02/26/05 at 06:07:42 Nice job woodworker: That thing looks better than my 2000...The seat looks great, although i am not crazy about the higher sissy bar, but I am sure it is far more practical than the shorter one.....Well Done cheers ........... Michael |

Title: Re: 86 Rebuild Post by Greg_650 on 03/16/05 at 05:24:18 I love the seats. The tan color goes nicely with the blue. I hope that you have better luck with the Barnett clutch springs, than I did. They were "out of stock" when I ordered them, and I waited and waited and finally gave up. |
