Title: Spare belt and pulleys
Post by lalle on 02/22/05 at 04:21:03

Howdy folks,

I have tried real hard to find a spare belt and pulleys and in Sweden they seem to be available only from the importer. These cost a small fortune so I'm wondering if you could give me some tips about this.

From my experience it pays off to import parts rather then buying them here... most of the times anyway.

Thanks,

Lalle

Don't post questions in this forum.  This is for technical and "how to" documents relating to the Savage/S40, as explained in the Read Me post at the top of the forum.  Please do a search and if you don't find what you need, post in the Rubber Side Down forum.

Almost every week there is one on the E-bay. Due to the size of the country and the short riding season it will take You pretty long time to wear Yours. Until You realy need to change Yours, You will be able do buy it for sure.

Have you considered a chain drive conversion? (http://www.mf-cycles.de/ls650/)

Sorry, will keep that in mind for next time.

About chain conversion, it is an option, sure. Any details on that?

And about the size of the country...  it's big enough to wear out a belt in a few years. It's all about how much you drive.

My wife's '94 has just over 60000 km's on it and has gone through one belt and this one is singing the last verse.

Last summer it ran just under 12000 km's after a trip to Italy and back.  ;)

Hi lalle from Sweden.
You'll find some info about chaindrive conversion in here:

And if you can read German, there's a lot of information too in the German forums, like:

Have fun,

Super stuff thanks!

Well it's not so much me wanting to get away from the belt drive, it's more having an economic alternative. Not sure chain is but at about $800 for belt and pulleys, you tend to look for options   ;)

WOW! $800 for belt and pulleys!!! Are they that expensive in the US? Is it worth putting that much into the bike at that point or just sell/trade for a new one? How many miles can they be expected to last?

Well umm no... $800 is the price in Sweden. That's what this thread is about, me being able to buy these cheaper in the US.  :)
