Title: Missing at high speed
Post by lagagnon on 01/02/05 at 20:19:21

Today I was out for a lovely ride on southern Vancouver Island in sunny 5deg C weather on my 2004 Savage, which has only 1900 km on the clock.

Going up a hill at about 60 km/hr the engine missed and hesitated a few beats and then continued on. It did this again slightly for the next 5 minutes or so and then everything was ok. I had lots of fuel. I stopped and checked the fuel and vacuum lines. They were ok. Then next 30 minutes of riding everything went well, no hesitations.

The plug is clean (checked at 1000km) and everything seems in order. I suspect bad fuel, but I could be wrong. I do not have an inline fuel filter so I wonder whether it was dirty fuel??

Any other ideas out there on what I should look for?

Is the spark plug lead and all the ignition stuff firmly connected as it should be?

Water in the fuel?

Thanks for the tip Greg. The negative battery terminal cable was loose and the positive one not exactly tight either. Tightening them seemed to have done the trick. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
