Title: Cruising speed
Post by klx650sm2002 on 12/08/04 at 00:19:02

What speed do you guys cruise at, on (if you do) and off freeways? I don't do freeways but otherwise do about 60mph.

I just recently got my 98 savage and I haven't taken it on the freeway, yet.  But in my area, usually I get between 45 - 50mph.  :)

On the highway I like to cruise around 60. It feels just right there. I've been up to 80mph, just to see how it felt, but I like back roads best so the slower speeds are just fine.

If the speed is mine to set, I prefer about 60-65MPH but the HOV lane often runs about 70-75MPH here in Dallas and I just stay with the flow.

I like doing around 45- 60mph when I'm not on the interstate.  I don't like having to do 70 -80mph on the Interstate (when it is moving) to keep up.

I should also note that I am on the interstates <5% of the time, do not have a windshield, and my right saddle bag likes to fly up onto the back seat.

On the highway my bike is happiest between 60-65 mph (less vibration) but I avoid highways whenever possible. Most of my riding is done on country twisties - speed varies depending on the road but usually between 35 and 50 mph.

I believe that's 50 MPH or so.

Here in Michigan I keep it between 55 and 60 on the back roads--that way I can keep up with the flow of traffic (if there is any) and can also see some of the scenery.  On the expressway I generally go 70-75.  The longest I have gone is 90 miles straight on the expressway--then I have to stop for gas...my hands are really tingally, because of the vibrations from the bike at that many rpm's.

I ride 25 miles to work straight down the interstate, 80 mph. Its a blast!!! I do prefer the backroads though, and I do take them when I have the time (not very often, I leave at the last second to get to work on time).

Me and Thumper are happiest at 60-65 on the interstate.  It just feels more relaxed at that speed.  70-80 is doable, but feels like more of a strain.

for me it depends on the wind conditions. i have no problem doing 75 on a still day. but if it is quite gusty i will only do 55.
the hov is fairly protected so i end up doing 65 on it.

I like 3500 RPMs the best....

Now, can anyone convert that?

50 mph in 5th gear (this was according to a well known Savage person)

3500rpm = 52mph
peak torque,3700 = 55mph (65" header)
peak power,5000 = 74mph (48" header)
Figures are for open pipes.

WOW!  I see someone likes PIPE.
As for me and my Savage, which has been modified a bit, we like to cruise in the 75-85 mph range when on the interstate.  I live out away from the hustle and bustle the city, but not too far from an interstate, so a lot of my riding is on the interstate.  When I am in the mood for really relaxed riding I drop back to the 60-65 range.  I have been accused of being a bit of a hot-rodder...but hey...it's fun.

Dang, that thing looks knarly.  Almost like an Exile bike.

I'd seen it before but never really FOCUSED on it.

If that was mine I think I'd paint the side panel to match the frame, or at least maybe a dark charcoal to get rid of that visual trapezoid.  Or maybe take it off and just go nekkid.

The long pipe looks like it's tuned for peak torque.
A peak torque pipe should be 63.5 inchs and a peak power pipe is 47 inchs.
The raask looks like a peak power pipe (when used without the baffle),has anyone got one they could measure, thanks.
