Title: Weights FYI
Post by PRH111 on 10/18/04 at 13:39:00

Changing the tube on the rear tire and I figured I would weigh a few items just for the heck of it:

Rear rim (drum removed, drive sprocket removed) is 15lbs 0.6 oz
Inner tube from IRC tire is 1lb 15.8oz
Rear tire with 2600miles use 10lbs 4.2oz

If I recall correctly....

The stock muffler is 12 lbs. all by itself.
The Raask pipe is 7 lbs for the whole exhaust.

So the performance gain from the Raask is due to weight reduction!!!

Suzuki Engine guard with hardware 3.563lbs
Tool bag and tool cover 2.325lbs

Sissy bar w/ mounting hardware and pad 3.85lbs
Right and left engine covers w/ hardware 1.02lbs
Upper and lower belt covers 3.3lbs

I removed the inlet tube and the belt covers, so with the engine guard, I just about broke even.

I also removed the airbox and side covers but never measured them.

Maybe...

I rode my spouse's bike with the Trapp, to work the other day...wanted to stir up the fluids a bit.

Anyway, I have to say that the difference between the Trapp and Raask is probably bottom end torque.  The Trapp gives more back pressure and probably more grunt, even with 14 disks to the bottom end.  The Raask, being freer flowing, seems to perform more on the mid range and top end.

I'm thinking of modifying the optional internal baffle (that sounds like crap when installed), to provide just a bit more back pressure to the Raask.

Just a little update:

Rear chrome pieces that go with the sissy bar are 2.95lbs each including all fastening hardware and the turn signals (but not including any of the hardware fastening the sissy bar).

I had a chance to check the weight of some of the accessories on my bike the other day, unfortunately I cannot get rid of the stuff since it is required  to make the thing go...all together it added up to 215 lbs...with a little more time, exercise, and a proper diet I might be able to reduce the its' overall mass......at least I hope so....pray for my success please.

Removing the engine is a real weight reducing technique.
