Title: What other bikes do you all have???? Post by savagethumper on 09/23/04 at 15:05:01 I know many of us have other bikes, or our spouses have other bikes, so....what do you got? I had a 1981 GS250T, great training bike, but no good for highway riding. I did a little window shopping today, and I found my next "other" bike. A bright orange 2003 Kawasaki Z1000. It's a naked, 4 cyl, sportbike. I sat on 10-15 different bikes, and this one called to me. Sort of like the "dark side of the force". I swear it said," forget the CBR, screw the GSXR, to hell with the R1, join me and together we will rule the road". Honest, it said that, or at least I got my medication screwed up again. ;D ;D ;D |

I'd get rid of it, except it still fires perfectly and I like the feel of it still. I haven't had a crotchrocked since I got rid of my Katana and Ninja about 7 years ago... think about getting something new from time to time. Now I'm kindof looking for a heavier cruiser. Love my Savage but at 75+ all day on long trips I think I may opt for something packing a bit more weight. |

Perfect bike to learn on but also good for trips. We just got back from a rally in Ruidoso, NM this past weekend, 300 miles one way. When I was a kid, my first bike was a Honda Trail 70, then got a Hodaka dirt bike. In 2001, thirty years and three kids later, I got a 1200 Sportster. My wife (and still my high school sweetheart) are empty nesters now and lovin' it! Have fun and ride safe! |

I ride it when my wife goes with me and long trips etc. I also have a 2002 Suzuki 800 Intruder that is my solo bike for club rides and my daily bike for errands and such. If it is not raining and it will fit in my saddlebag I ride the Intruder. With high price of gas it is a real money saver. I call it my townie bike. |

So I always have some of them around not to mention lots of parts of them. I currently have a T5 Vespa I am about to strip down for paint but am running around town on. And I have a Lambretta serveta Jet 200 I am finishing the wiring on. And several more frames and motors and a bunch of parts laying around. I also have the Savage and a Yamaha Virago 250 (the kids ride). |

For instance I picked up two frame and boxes and boxes of parts and one running scooter from one guy for $1700..... instant hobby! :D And slowly find a running scooter needs some work for like a grand. Next thing you know you got four or five of them> And these simple systems are easly to learn. Two stroke and cables. Very simple and take up small space. |

The 1000 and 750 are faster beyond a doubt and the seats are waaaay more comfortable but the savage just has something the others dont. |

I hardly ever drive a car anymore. Great bike and fun! I've been riding for 35 years and am approaching 300,000 miles lifetime. Previous bikes: 1970 Honda CT70 1974 Can Am 175 T'NT 1975 Suzuki GT750 (Water Buffalo- Sold at 25,000 miles) 1977 Yamaha XS750 (Silver Bird - Sold at 50,000 miles) 1981 Honda GL1100 (Gold Wing - Sold at 125,000 miles) 1981 Honda GL500 (Silver Wing - Sold at 10,000 miles) 1992 BMW R100RT (Sold at 15,000 miles) The Savage is the only the second bike I've ever bought used (the CT70 was the other used bike I've bought....from my Dad). It had 75 miles on it! |

He had one back when my parents first met and started dating. I picked it up for $200 in good shape and running strong, and am working on building it back to match his that he had using discussion with him and old pictures. Hoping to be able to give it to them for an anniversary gift soon. Missed their 30th, but maybe for their 31st... And of course, I'm planning on adding a bigger bike for travelling on here in the near future. |

Last year , I had a 72 Yamaha RD350 that i picked up at a garage sale and turned into a cafe racer . I had to get rid of it before it got rid of me . Way to fast . In May 2005 I got a new 2005 VSTAR 1100 Silverado which I do use for my long trips. I don't think I'll ever give up my "Special Ed." :-* Gerry |

But I think it's interesting that the second bike right now that interests me most, for long distance touring, is the V-Star 1100, and a couple of our Savage stalwarts already have them. They also hold onto their Savages, as would I if I could afford to. Must be something we share, huh? |

I just recently tried to revive her with no success. She will soon keep other CB's running via ebay. Previous bikes were a 1956 Jawa 250 and a 1969 Sportster. The savage is quickly overtaking the CB as a favorite yet memories die hard. I'll keep riding the savage till it happens. |

Found the bike in pieces in a garage, took over a year to put back together and get started. Must of put it together backwards, the kickstarter is on the left, shifter on the right and the shift pattern is one up four down. ;) |

'83 honda atc250r, mine, waaaayyyy toooo much fun! owned 20yrs '85 honda atc250sx, hers, one of honda's best kept secrets, owned 20yrs '83 honda atc70, sons(5 yrs old), owned 11 years i need a couple 125s for the daughters, (13 & 15 yrs old) |

Post by Trippah on 04/05/06 at 20:06:36 I don't know about you, but I think these past 10 years have been absolutely the best deade since the sixties for sports cars and motorcycles. Only have the Savage for now, but Ducati has some exciiting new "classic" style bikes, moto guzzi has a great new line, Harley finally has almost reliable. New triumphs bonnie and thruxton make me feel good just seeing them. New Norton (so what's in a name??). Great time to be alive and riding. Now if I could just manage a little more $, then that would = more bikes. |
