Dave, Mike, all:
Thank you for your kind words.
I have not had the urge to dismsntle the engine yet, so the NOS cylinder is still sitting on a shelf, looking for it's opportunity. Not likely to happen in the near future, since my next engine build will be 97mm flattop, which means I will have a cylinder rebored for that project. i am driving with an early DR650 cam, which will follow the new build.
Mileage is nothing to brag about, 55mpg with my driving style which means mostly under or at 3500rpm, with the occational surge to 5000rpm, for.the thrill of accelleration.
This does not bother me, although others get 65mpg, I am not going touring around the world, but rather just going trips of 30 miles, and trips to get an icecream.
The exhaust is wonderfull, with a full and deep note which drops slightly when I roll off the throttle. It is not much, if at all, louder than stock, but as you perhaps remember, flows about twice as good as the stock one. And it _never_ fires back on me. Instead it sounds exactly like a real motorcycle should sound. It is a sound that makes me proud of the bike.
-Oh, and yes. "Sticking a leg out" is our term for a broken conrod. It really is remarkably slim, and I fear it could break, but with a 7000-7500 rpm limit, I feel assured it will be ok.
The work you and Dave are doing with regard to oil pressure and temperature is admirable, and I follow it with interest. However, I don't think I am going to contribute with data on that front, since my limited time available will be invested in more porting work, including bigger valves and multi angle valve seats. The various ratteling sounds from within the engine also draws my attension.
I will report about this work when I start it during the dark winter period.

Cheers, Finn Hammer

That oil pressure warning light is totally pro, and it certainly will get your attention. Very nice installation.

Can't get over the mud stains on your helmet. Your bike must have been a complete mess after that ride. My bike is a beater; it definitely looks well worn. It doesn't get any oooos & aaaahs, but I never have to wash it.

I think you have pretty much exhausted all reasonable options for increasing your oil pressure. You definitely have significantly more pressure than the stock system, and now you have a warning light. Pretty sweet setup.

I've been watching your weather on the nightly news. You guys have been havin a rough summer. You are long overdue for a nice stretch of dry, temperate weather. Can't wait to hear how the cafe shakes out on some long rides. Very interested in how the flat-top piston works out for you.

Late spring fever for me - Health reasons (I was off balance and constantly bumping into things like door frames, ending up with 'mystery bruises'; good news is this has subsided - change in medication). Note the Dr never did tell me to 'stop' - but I knew things were not right.

Tonight I fired her up, went down the driveway, and came back just fine.

Going to do more driveway practice and gauge things - even though everything feels fine.

Then, some 4 a.m. empty-road practice to see how it goes.

Wish me luck.
